Hello All,
I have yet to play in a tournament game with Gehenna. I am interested in
the opinions of people who have played in a Large (20+) tournament with
Gehenna Cards. I only know of Origins that fits the category, but I do not
follow events outside of North America.
I do not want your opinion unless you have actually participated in an
event.
If you were at Origins(or other qualified event), did you see any Gehenna
Events?
Did they have a large impact on the game?
If there was a large impact, is it your opinion that the impact was
helpful/hurtful, other?

ah, you going to get it wether you like/want it or not. ;)

I was. There were a few played, more on Wednesday prior at the Pre
Origins event hosted by Jay K.

Yes.

I'd have to list this as Other. While the cards had rather profound
effects in most games, none seemed to unballanced due to them, and at
this point no one seems to have mastered tweaking their decks to extract
the full effects of Events, while gaining a huge advantage over the rest
of the players.
Although I've been toying with a couple Ideas.

Nope. 4 tables and 25 players, I don't think I saw a single event in play
the whole event. I know that at least a few decks I was at tables with had
Dragonbound in them, but they never saw any play at all.

Nope. They never hit the table.

NA
I don't think anyone was playing any event heavy events in the Friday
tournament that I saw. I think there were a few floating around--I'm fairly
certain I saw someone with a The Unmasking in play for an ally heavy deck,
presumably, but I never actually played a game with that deck. So basically,
the Events didn't have a big impact so much and no one seemed to be playing
Event based decks.

I have played three tournaments since Gehenna is sanctionned.
Anthelios the red star, dragondbound, torpid blood have hit the table
on each.
anthelios seems to be a really powerful cards (confer the excellent
article on it).
I haven't seen wormwood yet, some decks are in building around it
(including a mass corruption deck).
Forschriit libray is really powerful too.
The Unmasking is in the starting blocks there (warghoul, rafastio
ghoul...), but I haven't seen them yet too.Ecxepct a deck based on
events by françois Alix, there were no full events based deck in the
three tournament.
In final round, I was the only one who played any gehenna events (and
it was Anthelios, and in a other one, Recalled to the Founder and
children of inquisition).
Hope that helps.

Yes, a few. In the Thursday constructed, I was playing a "Basilia is
Fueled" deck with Fueled by Heart's Blood. My Fueled hit the table
quite early in both of the preliminary rounds, if I remember right.
And then, I think it was in the Friday constructed, Dave Setty's
Dragonbound hit the table relatively late in the game I played with him.
> Did they have a large impact on the game?
Sure. Fueled let my Basilia diablerize (eventually, when I got a skill
card on her) without fear of blood hunts. The Dragonbound ended up
contributing to my ousting of both Dave Setty and his prey at the time,
Dave Pennington I think, because they had fought against each other
(Setty w/Alastor and weapons, but his vamps were running out of blood,
Pennington w/Blood Brothers) and torporized some of each other's vamps.
Hmm, actually, I think Setty might not have taken any Dragonbound damage
after all, but the Dragonbound that he was counting on killing
Pennington that turn so he would have 6 more pool and a chance against
me ended up *not* killing him because Pennington was able to rescue one
of his two torporous vamps that turn before taking Dbound damage. Then
I ousted both of them cause they both had very little pool and Dave
Setty wasn't able to Second Tradition much because his vamps were at 0
to 1 blood at this point.
I also heard about Matt Flint (iirc) playing Dragonbound in the Sunday
tournament, I think Trey said it got Matt at least 1 VP in the game he
was in, but then contributed to Matt's ousting as well? I could be
wrong about this though.
> If there was a large impact, is it your opinion that the impact was
> helpful/hurtful, other?
Helpful to the player playing the card, usually, but maybe not 100% of
the time. Do you mean helpful or hurtful to the fun-ness of the game?
If that, I would say hurtful in the case of Fueled, I realized after
playing it a few times that that deck just Doesn't Play Well With
Others, in that if it works, no one else is having fun (and so neither
am I) since they can't do anything to stop all their vamps getting
eaten, while if it doesn't work, I'm not having fun cause there is
nothing else my deck can do. In the case of Dragonbound, I think it
doesn't especially impact the fun of the game, it's just another source
of pool damage for combaty decks.

I saw Dragonbound played by a couple of other players and was playing
it myself during the Qualifier. It seems a natural inclusion in a
combat deck to augment Fame and Tension.

Mark!
I never see you post around these parts! Crazy!
Yeah, in the Friday game, there were lots and lots of fighty decks
(including my own...) and I think many of them were packing Dragonbound, but
I don't think I ever saw any in play anwhere. I wasn't using Dragonbound, as
I'm unconvinced that the loss of hand slot is worth it. But that is me.

It might be a poor fit for a weenie deck. The other scenario where it
may not be favorable is in a metagame that is a gore-fest, but in that
case odds are someone else is playing it anyway. But aside from those,
the card is pure gold.
Its real strength, though, is not the extra pool damage. Once most or
all your prey's existing minions are dunked, you don't need to touch him
again. This frees up your rush for pure table control, allowing you to
go backwards or wherever you feel you need to, without ever letting up
on your prey.
Lastly, if you play Dragonbound while your hand size is increased by
Visit from the Capuchin, you drop back down to a hand size of seven when
Visit exhausts. There are other ways to offset the handsize problem, of
course, but that seems like the best one to me.

Really? How does that work out? That is incredibly wacky!

Cards played by the controller of Visit from the Capuchin are not
replaced at all - this overrides any "Do Not Replace Until " clause on
the cards played. [LSJ 20010913]

Whilst not a 20+ player tourney, teh last constructed we had in
Cambridge (9 Methuselahs) I was packing some events. I got Anthelios
out in one of my preliminary games, and in the Final I got out Veil of
Darkness. I wasn't bothered about a drop in Hand Size, although I did
have Visit in there to hopefully prevent the need to drop to 6.
Veil of Darkness was useful, as you got to see at least one card that
people drew most turns, and also it stopped a couple of Bleeds on me
the few times they did draw a master. No Lasombra players, so no
additional effect from the Obtenebration additional penalty, but no
big loss there.
Unfortunately, I was ousted before I could get to play Wormwood, but I
don't think it would have had a big impact on the game.

Example then:
I've got a Visit from the Capucin with one token on it (thus eight cards
in hand)
Discard phase, I put a Fall of the Sabbat in play, remove the last
counter on Visit, thus discarding Visit. Seven cards in hand. My hand
size is now seven, right?

You should have searched for 'Capuchin event author:lsj', it returns

Peter!
My minimal computer skills have finally allowed me to wander onto the
newsgroups. It took some help from the esteemed Mr Kristoff, but here
I am. I usually just lurk, but am getting used to the idea of posting.
I agree with the difficulty of playing a 6 card hand, after having
experienced it. However, if one were using a combat scheme more based
on permanent resources , like a multi-rush with guns, it probably
would be more bearable. I was playing big Nos ani/pot combat, which is
VERY card intensive and felt the burn in the games where I dropped it
too soon.
> Wow! If it's true any Event deck will use Visit from the Capuchin!!! :) :) :)
Mine already does. I have been playing with 3 in a 60 card deck (of
which 14 are events), but it seems 4 might be the magic number.
The main problem with the event deck is that someone across the table
decides that the events are disrupting too much his play, and you end
up with an extra enemy hell bent on destroying you to remove the
events. Yeah, some people says "wow! it's fun having those wacky
events around!", but they don't move a finger to save you.
I am planning having a friend play with an event deck too, so that
they are put into play faster, but i am not sure if it would be that
effective... I guess I would have to put in the whole set to
compensate for the fact that I wouldnt be able to put into play half
of them, and some events I leaved out hurt me plenty!

Very reasonable. I think decks things like an Assault Rifle/Multi Rush kinda
deck (Counter Germaine/Fatima/Tariq/Whatever) will certainly do ok with a
Dragonbound in play. High cycle weenie type decks, however, not so much.

Last Friday I've played a Rock Cat deck which objective is to produce
a lot of blood, create gargoyle and put in play rock cats + Wormwood
in a 6 players environment.
I've at the other side of the table a setite which hopes in wormwood
