A friend of mine went to a tourney in Paris last saturday. He told me that they play with a '11 is max capacity for a vampire' rule. Is this an official rule/ruling, because I've never heard of such a thing as a max capacity for vampires? The player is considered to be a Methuselah, that means that he/she has a cap of over 11 (more like 12-13) doesn't it. Or does this rule means that you can't control vamps with a cap over 11. If so, does this mean that 11-caps cannot have skill cards played on them , or does it mean that skill cards can be played and the vamp learns the discipline but doesn't go up in capacity? Jeroen

This is not an official rule (and cannot be used in V:EKN tournaments, therefore). There is no artificial maximum for vampire capacity. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) VTES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. A friend of mine tried to draw a parallel between VteS Capacity, and VtM Generation.. For the most part, (15-cap) is a good guideline for generation. But not always. If you consider the Methuselahs to be vampires, with a cap of 30, that obviously breaks that rule. And if you consider how many disciplines there are, with Discipline cards, you could theoretically have even Smudge the Ignored with a capacity over 20 :) Considering the fact that whenever you gain a Discipline, you also gain a Capacity, I would completely disagree with a "capacity limiting" house rule, if the justification is that there's a correlation between generation and capacity.. It only gives you an excuse to Bums Rush Violet Tremain with your Inner Circle members to give them more disciplines :)

This actually came up a few months ago. But my conclusion was that, while capacity usually reflects generation, it also reflects influence to an extent as well. Moncada, the sire of Lucita is a 10 cap while Lucita is only an 8. Sascha Vykos and Lucita are both 8 caps, but Sascha is a 6th gen and (if you go by the change in 3rd Edition) Lucita is only a 7th gen now. And while I don't own Kindred's Most Wanted myself, Dylan the 6 cap !Ventrue seems to be a little too wussy in VTES to be that much of threat to the Camarilla. But the argument that you shouldn't be able to control > 11 caps is bogus. Technically, Methusalehs are 4th or 5th gens. So you probably shouldn't be able to control vampires with a 10+ cap at all. (Etrius, the 11 cap for example is a 4th generation Methusaleh). As for the highest cap...hmmm.. There are 17 disciplines. If Smudge had his Sire Revealed, got a cap improving Praxis, and all 17 disciplines at superior, he's be a 37 cap. Also, you can add as many Camarilla Vitae Slaves as you want to further increase the cap. Dauntain Black Magician or Ethan Locke can get Discipline cards quicker. Also, instead of going for a small cap with no disciplines (like Smudge), you could also go with high caps with few disciplines. With max discipline cards and the right Praxis, Masika or Appolonius can be a 39 cap. Try 5th Tradition and Minion Tapping that!!! Halcyan 2

Some people also came from remote player groups, so maybe they use house rules... You can play as many discipline cards you want on a vampire. reyda

because i have pbs to receive all messages on the NG, i don't know if my first reply has been answered. Tell your friend that he was told wrong. Certainly, the assertion was done by the players at the table but not by the judges. He should have asked them ... Any answer by direct mail, please (see above). Klav

It was just something my friend overheard on a table he wasn't playing at. No offence. 3 friends of mine went to Paris and had their butts kicked severely. Shame I couldn't be there. Maybe on the EC. I'm very angry to see that thread on a worldwide forum... Nobody in the organization said to your friend that this kind of rulings was existing !!!! If there was a rule problem, why didn't he call a Judge for clarification ?? A french Judge from Paris wouldn't say a so silly rule, so who did ?? I can't think that it's true, I was at this tournament... I never heared something like that !!!! The only thing that comes in my mind is that your friend is lying !!!! If a body can't come up with enough, then they just aren't being creative. Once again, I'm overwhelmed by a compulsion to stress that the VTES game should be given the vampire and library cards that it needs, _not_ what fits into V:TM cannon, and any justifications can be made after the fact. (Halcyan, these comments are definitely _not_ directed at your post. Your mention about capacity and influence seems congruous with my own position, I just think that there are a myriad of other considerations one could add from V:TM cannon to justify just about any capacity on a vampire. Generation alone is just too simple-minded, I think most would agree... -- Regards, R.
