Greetings, I've made a pseudo-weenie aus/dom/tha deck and several questions came up with Seeds of Corruption. First was the blood burning. After searching DejaNews though, I found that the blood is burned immediately as soon as the action is attempted; it is not a cost. No problem. Second is the special ability thing. I found this bit in the rulings/errata/clarifications: > Seeds of Corruption [AH] - Action (th) (2): > "Special ability" includes all non-sect, non-title text. [LSJ > 970801](note that this only means that the affected vampire cannot > do anything that he is allowed to do only by special ability - not > that he can now overcome some special restriction. Assamites > still cannot commit diablerie, for example -lsj) It seems simple enough, but not quite. The above implies to me that the only thing that is restricted are actions the vampire can take based on card text like Wynn's rush ability, Dominique's vandal counters, and Etrius's ability to steal blood from Tremere. However, I found specific reference in one post from LSJ stating that Basilia's aggravated hand damage would be affected by SoC. So what exactly is affected by SoC? - actions by card text? - Obviously affected - Leandro's effect on influence phases? - Arika's effect on locations? - aggravated hand damage? - +x hand damage? - +x bleed? - votes like Thetmes, Kephamos, and others that aren't titles? - penalities like Zoe's lack of stealth while hunting or opponents having +1 hand damage in combat with Basil? So what falls under "using their special abilities"? Mike -- Posted via Talkway - http://www.talkway.com Exchange ideas on practically anything (tm).

Nah. "Do" is not intended to mean "take actions". The part in parenthesis is there to avoid questions like "is the Assamite restriction on diableries a special ability?" Special ability includes all non-sect, non-title text. Actions or otherwise. > However, I found specific reference in one post from LSJ stating > that Basilia's aggravated hand damage would be affected by > SoC. > > So what exactly is affected by SoC? All non-title, non-sect text. Except that restrictions given by such text are not lifted. For instance, Beast still could not employ a retainer. > - actions by card text? - Obviously affected Yes. > - Leandro's effect on influence phases? Yes. > - Arika's effect on locations? Yes. > - aggravated hand damage? Yes. > - +x hand damage? Yes. > - +x bleed? Yes. > - votes like Thetmes, Kephamos, and others that aren't titles? No. These are treated as titles [6.3.4] > - penalities like Zoe's lack of stealth while hunting or > [older] opponents having +1 hand damage in combat with Basil? Yes. These aren't restrictions exactly, so they would qualify as special abilities (since they aren't sect or title text). -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) VTES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast.
