Please help with a local rules debate: When in combat, do you have to delcare modifiers to strikes (ie, Wolf Claws) during combat, or can one defer mentioning them until damage assessment? ie, Dollface and Kallista are fighting. Dollface declares a straight strike. Kallista plans to use Wolf Claws to torporize Dollface. Does Kallista have to declare a strike "with Wolf Claws", or can she declare a straight strike, hoping Dollface won't attept to dodge, and in damage resolution say "my strike was with wolf claws, by the way" A friend claims that you don't have to declare such modifiers because one "wouldn't be able to see that her opponent has wolf claws". I maintain that modifiers must be declared during combat. Who's right? Thanks, Jake

When your opponent declares a strike that is not a Dodge or Combat Ends, you can then whip out your claws. Note that you must play the claws *before* strike resolution, but after your strike is declared. -- Arrogantly twisting the sterile canvas snoot of a | a-Henh! fully charged icing annointment utensil, he poots forth | a tiny green rosette near the summit of a dense but | Brian radiant muffin of his own design. | Wilson | We miss you, Frank! |

Wolf Claws can be played at any point before the appropriate strike resolution step, and have its normal effect. This means that the acting minion can wait to see whether the blocking minion blocks or not before deciding whether to use Wolf Claws. Same goes for Claws of the Dead, etc. Tom Wylie rec.games.trading-cards.* Network Representative for aa...@cats.ucsc.edu Wizards of the Coast, Inc.

I realize you're in the process of switching jobs, etc. (congrats, btw), but you'll have to be a bit more clear on this one. :) I'll rephrase the question: During combat, if I'm the acting minion, can I declare my strike as "hands" and then wait to see if the blocking minion declares a "strike: dodge" before using my wolf claws or my claws of the dead to modify my strike to aggravated damage? Thanks, -ben -- "I've seen things you wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tann- hauser gate. Tom's answer is still going to be "yes." [ quoted text not captured ]
