Scoured the google archives for this, but couldn't find LSJ answering the question, so here it is again: Setup: I have my prince, Volker, take a Fifth Tradition action. The vampire to receive the blood is not one that I control. Fifth Tradition is a directed action when the target vampire is not controlled by the acting vampire's Methuselah. ie, Only the controller of the receiving vampire can block the action without the help of Eagle's Sight, Falcon's Eye, or Anneke. Resolution: Are all of the statements in the Setup correct? Will they all apply to the superior Obeah version of Renewed Vigor? Reference: Online Card Text: The Fifth Tradition: Hospitality [Jyhad, V:TES] Cardtype: Action Cost: 1 blood Requires ready prince or justicar. +1 stealth action. Choose a controlled vampire. That vampire gains enough blood from the blood bank to reach full capacity. Renewed Vigor [BL] Cardtype: Action Cost: 1 blood Discipline: Obeah/Fortitude +1 stealth action. [for] Put this card on this acting vampire. During your untap phase, if this vampire is in torpor, you can burn this card to move him or her to your ready region. A vampire can have only one Renewed Vigor. [obe] Move a vampire in torpor to his controller's ready region, or restore an ally or retainer to his or her starting life (with life counters from the blood bank). [OBE] Choose any other vampire. That vampire gains enough blood from the blood bank to reach full capacity. Online Rulebook: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/rulebook/ section 6.2.2.1 Who May Attempt to Block If the action targets another Methuselah (or something controlled by another Methuselah), then the action is called directed, and the Methuselah who is the target (or controls the target) of the action may use her ready untapped minions to attempt to block the action. If it was directed, it would say "(D) : blah blah blah"

"Shaun McIsaac" wrote very simplistically: > If it was directed, it would say "(D) : blah blah blah" The (D) symbol is only reminder text. Only the target of the action determines whether or not an action is directed. Read the rulebook, section 6.2.2 about Resolving Block attempts for the following quote: "As a convenience, when a card describes an action that is typically directed at another Methuselah, the card's text will usually include a (D) symbol as a reminder that the action is typically directed." Also: " If the action targets another Methuselah (or something controlled by another Methuselah), then the action is called directed, and the Methuselah who is the target (or controls the target) of the action may use her ready untapped minions to attempt to block the action. If the action is not directed at another Methuselah (or at something controlled by another Methuselah), then the action is called undirected* and can be blocked by the acting Methuselah's prey or predator, with the prey getting the first opportunity to block." "*The one type of action that may cause confusion is the political action, so it is worth noting here that all political actions are undirected, no matter how many, how few or which Methuselahs can be affected by the outcome of the referendum. This is because the action calls the referendum, which involves all Methuselahs. It doesn't target any one Methuselah specifically (not to be confused with the terms of the referendum, which can in some cases be set to affect a single Methuselah)." See also page 26 of the Jyhad Rulebook, section 13.3.1 Who May Block Whom: "Actions that directly affect another Methuselah are called directed actions and can only be blocked by that Methuselah's minions." See also page 20 of the VTES Rulebook, section 6.3.1 Directed Actions: "Directed Actions: These are actions that directly affect another Methuselah, one of her minions, or a card a Methuselah controls. An action directed against another Methuselah may only be blocked by the minions of that Methuselah." [ quoted text not captured ]
