A friend and I had a question about range during the second round of combat. Example: at the start of combat range is by default short. A Maneuver is used to set range to long. Damage is dealt round over, but then a press is played to continue combat so during the 2nd round are we still at long range, having played no manuevers, or does each round of combat reset range to short? Each round starts at close range. The V:tES rulebook unfortunately omitted that rule. The rulebook has been errataed: From: aa...@cats.ucsc.edu Subject: [VtES][PR] Full Rulebook, 1 of 2 Date: 28 Sep 1995 09:18:37 +0100 Message-ID: <44dlot$1...@acorn.acorn.co.uk> Section 21, Advanced combat/start another round of combat The last paragraph should say the minion may "decline to perform the press." The section should say that each new round begins at close range. -- L. Scott Johnson (vte...@regency.wizards.com) Official VtES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. The assumption is that a press to continue represents running up to the opponent and catching him (or having him unable to escape). Thus, each round of combat begins at short range. --- Liam Burke "The Democrats can't pull it together if we rip them apart." -overheard

I couldn't see anything in the rules about any round beginning at short range. A press means running, yes, but if you are already at long range, you just run up to him, holding him at a distance where you can attack him. Rubber Duck

LSJ has stated that each round begins at close range, I believe. [ quoted text not captured ]
