Day 1 was a draft (3 Third Ed, 2 SoC).
Jared Strait limped into the finals with a 1 GW, 4 VP finish after the two
preliminary rounds (tied for 5th with another 1 and4, but ahead on Tournament
points). And then went on to sweep the final table (starting with his prey,
Shane Strait).
The other finalists:
David Buerger (2 and 8 in the preliminaries)
Eric Chiang (1 and 5)
Mark Loughman (1 and 5)
Shane Strait (1 and 5)
We had 28 players participate. Four others garnered a GW in the prelims:
Radd Kulseth 1 4
Jeff Thompson 1 3
Mike Ooi 1 3
David Bowles 1 3
Kevin Adrich 0 2
Mike Zavislak 0 2
Chris Schaut 0 2
Robert Dubock 0 1.5
Neil Paananen 0 1.5
Kurt Kupp 0 1
Joshua Duffin 0 1
Matt Strehlow 0 1
Daniel Decker 0 1
Jeff Turner 0 1
Todd Perez 0 1
David Sisson 0 0
Jon Becht 0 0
Jason Sloan 0 0
Arthur Wright 0 0
C J 0 0
Megan Bailey 0 0
Steph Turner 0 0

Results here will be added to the results of day 2 (which starts in two hours)
to determine the US Champion.
>Day 1 was a draft (3 Third Ed, 2 SoC).
Day 2 was a standard constructed affair, with 31 players, but only 30
at a time. (One player played the first two rounds and dropped, and a
replacement played only in the third round.)
The finalists:
Mark Loughman (Carna/Neighbor John permacept/Smiling Jack) with
something better than 2 GW and 8 VPs going into the finals
bleeding
Jeffrey Thompson (Obtenebration gets out the Vote) with 2 GW and 8 VPs
going into the finals
bleeding
David Berger (Arika and friends stealth vote) with something better
than 2 GW and 8 VPs going into the finals
bleeding
Jared Strait (potence rush with dominate minions for a few Deflections
and Conditionings) with 1 GW and 5 or 6 VPs
bleeding
Mike Ooi (Ambrogino Giovanni merged bleed with block denial, Ex
Nihilo, Soul Gem, and Virolax Facility) with 1 GW and 6.5 VPs
All players had a shot at the US Championships, as it would have been
their fourth game win in the weekend, and finals tournament wins count
more for the tiebreakers, with the exception of Mike Ooi, who was 1 GW
behind the curve. Other tiebreakers would have to have been used
should he have won the finals table to determine the US Champion.
Mike, Jeff, and Jared shared the first round table on this day, so
they were all painfully aware of what the others could do and how they
should sit.
Jared and Mike had no choice, and Jeff sat as Jared's predator. David
sat as Jared's predator, and then Mark sat as Mike's prey (as he had
also played against Jared in an earlier round.)
Mark had the perfect opening crypt, and soon had Carna + Bowl of
Convergence + Sniper Rifle + Leather Jacket along with Neigherbor
John, Frondator, Cohn Rose, and Martin Frankel.
Jared managed to oust Mike, and David was able to oust Jared. Mark
ousted both Jeff and David for the win.
Mark Loughman got 3 VP + GW in the finals, showing clearly why he is
in the V:TES Hall of Fame.

Cool, awesome result Mark - very much like to see a list for this
deck! a Jack deck is a tricky thing to drive victory in the finals of
a big event IMO.

Not so keen to see this one :)

Or this one, not that its not a fun deck to play and play against!

As an aside, the first two ousts were by Fame -- Jeff was ousted on Mark's Fame
and then Mike was ousted by Jared's Fame. The next Fame from Jared went to Mark,
but didn't secure an oust.
As another aside, the finals did not go to time. Of the 18 preliminary round
games, five went to time (and none went to time full -- always after at least
one oust).

Let me say again for the record that Jared Strait is my V:TES hero!
Cripes. He shows up at GenCon year after year, apparently hardly
playing much at all in the interim, and just wins and wins. Different
decks, different deck styles, etc. Sheesh.

And let me say that I am impressed, as when I show up at big tournaments
with potence rush with some dominate for a few Conditionings and
Deflections, I get my ass kicked...

Nice mix of stealth cards. I like it! Why not 1-2x more Shroud of
Absence, since it is so ridiculously good?

Did you find these, along with the Obedience, to be enough to save you?
Seems very low, especially seeing that you aren't playing a Zaire River
Ferry, which just seems to go into every fattie Lasombra deck, and not
even 1-2x Majesty for all your presence guys. And no suprise 1x
Entombment?

bit suprised about the missing Cardinal Benediction, but I suppose you

No WWEF/OTQV mix, huh?
I could also see fitting in a Far Mastery and a Charming Lobby, but
definately an excellent deck!

None of the big ones needed to only appear once, and the priscus title
is too likely to be contested so it didn't need to be repeated.

do with what was already loose.

On the two tables where I got 4 VPs, yes. When Jared was my predator
and Mark was my predator, no.

Originally there were 0 combat cards. Didn't seem to make much
difference.

Never saw Imbued all day, though there were rumors of 1 such deck.

So do I.

Nope. Anarchist did seal up at least 2 victory points during the day
though.

I gained 14 pool in one turn during the third round with Ancient
Influence and Political Stranglehold. They are a must include. I
should have dropped the Consanguineous Boons. I intended to use them
for grand-preys/grand-predators but I never had them in hand when it
was necessary.
> I am a bit suprised about the missing Cardinal Benediction, but I suppose

On my turn, yes, I tended to have enough votes.
>> Reaction [22]
>> 10x Deflection

Presence vote from other people. I stopped a number of votes from my
predator in the second game (2-3) that would have been passed over me
with Bewitching Oration. Didn't get to use them in the first or final
rounds.
>> 4x Wake with Evening's Freshness>No WWEF/OTQV mix, huh?
Replacing cards when it isn't my turn really doesn't matter.

Singular. Only 1 deck had better than 2 and 8 going into the final. Mark's.

Which, except for "Greatlakes Purdue Lafayette qualifier" of 30-JUN-07, I now have.
So, discounting the missing data, five of the 31 players were previously
qualified. That leaves 7 new qualifying spots. Previously-qualified players are
identified with (*) in the list.
The seven new qualifiers are:
David Buerger
Jared Strait
Mike Ooi
Jonathan Scherer
Matt Strehlow
Kurt Kopp
Megan Bailey
Finalists were, in order of placement into the finals:
1 * Mark Loughman (3/8.5)
2 David Buerger (2/8) 144TP
3 * Jeff Thompson (2/8) 138TP
4 Mike Ooi (1/6.5)
5 Jared Strait (1/6)
With, as previously reported, Mark winning the final with 3 VPs and David and
Jared getting 1 VP each.
Other players:
Jonathan Scherer 1 5.5
Matt Strehlow 1 5.5
Kurt Kopp 1 5
Megan Bailey 1 4
* Shane Strait 1 3.5
David Bowles 1 3.5

I'll pester the organizer to send a copy to you.
The Qualifier qualified 4 people: myself, Ankur Gupta, Boris Zaretsky
(the winner), and one other person (who wasn't planning to attend the
NAC but didn't decline the qualification ahead of time) whose name
escapes my memory at present.

If your report is correct, it won't matter then -- none of the players you list
played in the tournament I ran. If the unnamed person did, it wouldn't change
the number of qualifiers. So it really only matters if the unnamed person is one
of the seven people I listed as new qualifiers. Which seems unlikely.
Thanks for the info.
