Well that wasnt very hard. I have finished the "matching service"
portion and essentially mastered java network programming. I "quit"
working for otherworld comics last week which has taken up the last
6-7 months of my life. Man that was fun. Moving on, the code I
produced in the last 5 days is completely generic and can be used for
any java multiplayer game that requires a number of clients to begin
at the same time. When I unpacked my last backup I realized that I had
lost a TON of production code (read: 2 days worth). I think in
revisiting some of the past bugs, I have more easily relearned much of
what I had forgotten. What the matchmaking frontend looks like,
"essentially", is Battlenet/IRC but there is only 1 channel. There are
"ops/admins" and the rest of the functional details are really
inconsequential until I get a server online and can test latency and
loads. There may be things I have overlooked that could blossom into
larger issues. The server I have created is a windows based server
just as the clients are for windows, but I have hardly given up on
linux servers. My experience working with both windows and linux
counter-strike servers (www.counter-strike.net) has reinforced my
belief that linux is more stable than windows (even XP) by 100 fold. I
quickly checked the group history to see some if any one else has
taken up a similar project. Guess not. Glad to see some of the same
"non-programmers" still making absurd comments about it tho (Kevin M).
I got ahold of some of the new cards and of course have had a look
over all the spoilers. I am now convinced that support for "player
created sets" will be a necessary addition. Doh. I forgot to mention
that the reason I pulled the sourceforge page was due to VERY serious
changes in their policy regarding projects they "hosted", if you can
even call it that. Might as well be a private bulletin board now,
except you'd have to constantly be worried that they would take your
project from you or worse, sell it to someone. I do hope anyone who
has or knows someone with a project on Sourceforge, has removed it. My
final note was that I had the second largest collection of
"electronic" Magic Cards for the magic online client. Near about 70
thousand not counting unopened packs, decks, and unspent credits and
"shopping points". Minimum 4 of each card and traded for 4 of anything
new that was coded, the day it was coded. Due to a massive database
failure, my collection and a number of other larger collections were
completely wiped out. THAT sucked. However, the lesson of the story
was that I learned a lot about how some very talented very capable
very intelligent people went about creating the GUI for magic online
and I will attempt to mimic parts of it. I see no reason to make VTESC
completely "realtime" outside of "chatting" for the time being. For
now I'm just trying to keep it simple. All code is malleable, it's
never set in stone. That's what backups are for.
Agenda:
Per-fect Match Service (single channel)
Re-write/format most of the original client code (it's gawd awful
ugly)
Per-fect Multiple clients starting a game from the matcher (which will
immediately end) and returning back to the matcher
Get down a basic functionality allowing for vampires and allies to be
played correctly, games to begin and end
Get down simple combat
Get down combat with multiple rounds
Get down combat with special attacks
Get down combat with weapons and special attacks
Code playable cards as time allows...
Make the matcher multi-channel....
I will not code cards based on set as previously mentioned. I will
code them as time allows. I dont see why I should wait to code X
vampires when they are all identical excepting basic stats. I might as
well do what I can as soon as possible.
I have a number of serious employment prospects. If I end up working
in new york, I will probably put the project on haitus again. If I end
up working in seattle I will not. I will finish VTESC. I have forever
(read: 20 years). Anyone who does not have forever due to terminal
illness or other limiting condition, feel free to email me and I'll be
sure to work a little harder. =p
You can still reach me at ja...@teacher.com
Jack9.org is down. I will not respond any quicker than 48 hours to
emails, so be patient. I will probably NOT be posting to the newsgroup
for awhile either.
P.S.
I wish VTES would really 'flush out' the current clans before
introducing a ton of new ones (or equivalent factions) every
expansion.

Specifically which comments, and why were they absurd?

This is a blatant LIE, as noted below in Jack's postscript. I hate LIARS.

[snip rambling about Sourceforge]

Yes, your cock is indeed the biggest cock I have ever seen. Truly.
Wait, wait! I had 35,000+ VTES cards! And they were REAL, I had to BUY them
all, they weren't FREE like your playtest MTG cards are), is my cock bigger?

[snip Agenda, since this program will never see the light of day]

Well, gee, thanks for all the effort.

Doesnt sound likely. (see below)

Of course not.

Uhhhhhhh... Sabbat War? Final Nights? Hello, Beavis!
It's comments like this that... sheesh, it's not even worth it. <sigh>
Derek, can you fill in the blanks here for this guy? I don't have the brass
that you do. Dealing with a mind like Jack's is like swimming through
quicksand.

If I give you a freak drive can I have your promise to never have to
read the above again? Please oh please. Oh, and yeah Jack, cry me a
river.
