Here is what the 93 voters would prefer : More than one year 6% One year 28% 11 months 1% 10 months 6% 9 months 30% 8 months 10% 7 months 1% 6 months 15% Less than 6 months 2% So if we put these together, it means : - the majority of people would prefer 9 months, shortly followed by 1 year ; very few people liked the 6 months period ; - one year and more than one year put together add up to 34% ; 6 months and less than 6 months add up to 17% (exactly half of the above) ; between 8 and 9 months add up to 46 % (40% for 8-9, 36% for 9-10) ; - adding all the periods above 9 months we obtain 41 % ; adding all the periods below 9 months we obtain 28 % - the vast majority seems not to care about periods of 7 and 11 months ; - if we calculate the statistics (and use the "less than 6" as 5 and "more than a year" as 13 months for calculation purposes), we obtain : [(13 x 6) + (12 x 28) + 11 + (10 x 6) + (9 x 30) + (8 x 10) + 7 + (6 x 15) + (2 x 5)] / 100 (total percentage) = [78 + 336 + 11 + 60 + 270 + 80 + 7 + 90 + 10] / 900 = 942 / 100 = 9.42. Conclusion : according to this poll, a 9-10 months period between expansions will be the most popular for players. Orpheus, from his Mausoleum, Massilia.

Ask me if I'm shocked. >very few people liked the 6 months period Less liked - 7, 8, 10, 11, less than 6 or more than 12. Does that mean extremely few people liked these others? Not to dispute that this poll favors 9 months between expansions, but the most interesting thing to me is how little everyone agrees, how taking an average from the responses is likely to be not all that satisfying. Then, I don't know that we gain anything from such polls. Putting aside that this poll is unscientific, what WW should care about is whether customers will buy more or less depending upon frequency of releases - how much people care about one frequency v. another.

By majority, I intend here : "more people prefer this than anything else" ; not "51 %" ; whip me if there is a better term... ;-) > >shortly followed by 1 year ; > > Round numbers got more votes. Ask me if I'm shocked. Are you shocked ? > >very few people liked the 6 months period > > Less liked - 7, 8, 10, 11, less than 6 or more than 12. Sure, which I mention. But I put the emphasis on the periods which were used until now (6 and 9 months) and the ones most widely preffered (these and one year). > Does that mean > extremely few people liked these others? Or that round numbers feel more comfortable, yes. > Not to dispute that this poll favors 9 months between expansions, but the most > interesting thing to me is how little everyone agrees, how taking an average > from the responses is likely to be not all that satisfying. It gives a better idea about general wishes, methinks. Of course, OMMV. > Then, I don't know that we gain anything from such polls. Putting aside that > this poll is unscientific, I never pretended the contrary. But I still think that, scientific or not, it is an interesting tool for us and WW, as is this newsgroup : the players who feel concerned one way or another post their answers, and thus it gives a general idea which usually isn't too far-off. See for example the favorite expansion poll (or the one about "are my pasta good ?"). > what WW should care about is whether customers will > buy more or less depending upon frequency of releases - how much people care > about one frequency v. another. Yes, of course ; their marketting department surely do that already. But some people may be getting tired of 6-months expansions, and it will show only in forthcoming expansions. Also, we all know that Steve promised at least one 9-month expansion, so I wanted to get an idea of what players preffered. From what I've seen and asked and my personnal opinion, I think one year could be too much, but pushing to 10 months could be nice (for wallets if nothing else). [ quoted text not captured ]

Now turn around. :-) Hum, LSJ, I told you not to display our private little games in public. Remember that night in Barcelona's underground, hey ? ;-) Orpheus
