Text on the vial is as follows: Vial of Garou Glood Equipment 1 pool If a vampire is equipped with this Vial, you may burn this card before range is chosen in a round of combat. This vampire then gets +1 hand damage and an additional strike each round for the remainder of combat; he or she cannot use other equipment cards during that combat. Since this card gives an additional strike, does it preclude a minion playing any other cards to gain further additional strikes? IIRC, the ruling is that only one card may be played to gain additional strikes. Part of me says yes; this is an emotional argument, however, as it is just too obscene to think of a Blur'd, Vial'd vampire doing 8 points in a single round... Part of me says no; The Vial was not 'played' per se, but merely brought into use. If there was a vampire which had as its special ability "This vampire may pay 1 blood for one additional strike each round" then I would not think that this special ability would prevent this vampire from playing additional strike cards, would it? Messy, messy, messy. If one extends the ruling that you can play Trap and then press to end, then using the vial doesn't really count as having played an additional strike card... at least, not in later round. It does seems like you had played one in that round, so couldn't play another, which is bizarre. I'm also not sure whether or not your hypothetical vampire should or shouldn't be able to use its ability and still use Blur. Long answer: this will require some discussion back at the home office. [ quoted text not captured ] Jyhad rulebook: Only one card may give an additional strike to a minion for each round of combat. VTES Rulebook: Only one additional strike card may be used by a minion for each round of combat. It seems in this case, the Jyhad wording would clear up the mess in a logical fashion. The vial of Garou blood would be the "card" that gave the minion an additional strike, therefore precluding any other card being used on *any* round that the vial was in effect. It wouldn't be too hard to read the VtES rulebook this way, but it is easy enough to read it the other way as well. Similarly for the hypothetical vampire: The vampire's own card is the one that gave it an additional strike, therefore no other card would be allowed to. The VtES rules are much harder to make this happenstance behave "properly". -- L. Notes: 1. used != played 2. the vial is a card which gives a vampire additional strikes Not so obvious, to me. The vial is a card which has been used by a minion (vampire) for an extra strike *every round*. And, since "only one additional strike card may be used by a minion for each round", then no more may be played. This is simply an ambiguity of the rules, which, as my original post was attempting to demonstrate, was avoided by the Jyhad rules (although the Jyhad rules could be interpretted as allowing more than one additional strike card to be sluffed with no effect).
