That was the question I thought you asked, actually.
I don't think counters have any "controller" - they're just on cards.
They burn when the card burns (or when some effect says to burn them).
Now Corruption counters have some idea of who played them (so that
you can tell "your" counters from other players'), so there may be
some hint of control there, but it isn't important, since only the
/cards/ you control are burned when you're ousted, according to
[1.3]. So the question of control isn't really important at this
point.

In addition, they will also continue functioning. Counters do not require a
card to be in play for them to function. See:

No. See also disease counters from Vampiric Disease (which is never in play).
