Yes. If minion A commits to using a non hand strike during the manuver
phase (by using its inherrent manuver, like on Thrown Gate, Aid from Bats,
or a Gun) and the gets Immortally Grappled after manuvers are done, they
get no strike for their first strike that round, as they have commited to
a non hand strike, but cannot use them, due to the Immortal Grapple. If
they then get an additional strike, it can be any hand strike, as
additional strikes in a particular round are not restricted by what your
first strike (allthough in this particular case, it would have to be a
hand strike).

Combat between two minions. One armed with .44 magnum (optional maneuver each combat).
The other armed with nothing. The first minion uses his maneuver from the weapon to
go to long range. The second minion uses a card maneuver to cancel this maneuver and
remain at close range. The second minion plays Immortal Grapple, where hand strikes
are only allowed. Does this mean the minion armed with the .44 Magnum does not get to

Isn't Immortal Grapple usable only "before range is chosen?" If it is,
Player B could not play it after Player A maneuvered to long range with
the .44.

No. Immortal Grapple is "only useable at close range before strikes are
chosen" (from the card text), so it is played after the manuver phase but
before the chose strike phase. A really good way to avoid Immortal
Grapple is to have enough manuvers to stay at long range. A really good
way to make sure it works is to have enough manuvers to get to close
range.

What Peter said is correct.
Thanks for saving me some typing, PDB6.

Nope. Immortal Grapple is only useable at close range before strikes are
chosen. Maneuvering is the classic way of avoiding it.

Correct me if I am wrong guys,
The card wording specificaly states that YOU MUST play the card BEFORE the
maneuver phase. Thus the example you have presented is a moot point.

Actually I am wrong but, read further in Michael Carrer's response to
"combat end cards" that has a reference to Immortal Grapple.
I apologize for the misguided information.

You are in fact WRONG. Immortal grapple is played_after_maneuvers. It
has its own phase along with Blood to Water, after maneuver, before
strikes.
