The text on Ancient Influence says: "Only one Ancient Influence can be played in a game." My question is: what exactly constitutes a "play"? I've listed some situations below in order from what I think is most likely a "play" to least likely. Where is the dividing line between "play" and "non-play"? 1) Ancient Influence vote called and passed. 2) AI vote called and defeated. 3) AI vote called and cancelled (Telepathic Vote Counting, Delaying Tactics). 4) Attempt to call AI vote, but blocked. 5) AI used to add 1 vote to some other referendum (possibly an AI vote!). --- Eric Pettersen pe...@cgl.ucsf.edu (NeXTmail capable)

I would say that the line is before 3), because of the "cancelled" text on the cards you mention. But, by virtue of the Sudden Reversal/Giant's Blood ruling, it may fall immediately after 3). It would certainly fall before 5), because the text on PAs burned for votes is ignored altogether. -- L. As soon as you take an action to play Ancient Influence, you have used up its one "play" for the game. It doesn't matter whether the action is blocked, the vote is cancelled, etc. Burning AI for a vote doesn't count as its one play for the game. How does this interact with the ruling on Giant's Blood then? IIRC, if one plays a Giant's Blood and it is Sudden Reversal'd, then it doesn't count as having been played; another could be played for positive effect later on, no? Wouldn't that seem to indicate then that the card must be _successfully_ played (i.e. not blocked) for it to count as 'played'? (I may be recalling the GB ruling incorrectly; if so, I'm sure I'll be corrected.) Shane H.W. No. Sudden Reversal doesn't erase the fact that a card was played, it just cancels the effects and and pool. [ quoted text not captured ]
