The final round was recorded by Jeremiah Moore. Some of the words have
been changed so as not to offend the easily offended. Seating was
Giovanni-Assamite-Ventrue-Tzimisce-Malkavian. Not everything was
recorded, only the interesting stuff. See the very end for a quick
report of play.
Lucinde appears.
Lambach appears.
Lambach ‘reads the winds' and calls baloney on Lucinde who was trying
to become a Camarilla Exemplary. Lam tries to stomp a mudhole in Luci,
but she ‘rolls with the punches' and bitch slaps Lam for one damage.
Lambach summons an ‘army of rats' and cries, "Go forth my minions and
feast on her innards!"
Assamites refrain from killing Luci. (Assamites are now sucking up to
Ventrue as lapdogs)
Lambach ‘reads the winds' and blocks Lucinde trying to ‘govern the
unaligned.' Yet again Lam tries to stomp a mudhole in Luci but she is
just too ‘Majestic.' Lambach snaps out of it, ‘reads the winds' and
again blocks Lucinda who is now trying to call for a ‘parody shift.'
Luci once again ‘rolls with the punches' and avoids the mudhole
stomping of Lam.
Lambach's rats bleed the Malks, then he uses his ‘fiendish tongue' to
lick the blood from the wound. Lucinde vows vengeance on Lam and
shouts, "The Kiss of Ra will bringith the smackith down!" (Ventrue
sticking up for their Malk friends)
Lucinde throws Wilhelm to the Assamites as a tribute to them for not
rolling her like a tumbleweed. (Wilhelm actually was blocking a rush
on Lucinde)
Wilhelm escapes Fatima by using Luci's technique of ‘rolling with the
punches.'
Smudge, being the opportunist that he is, tries his luck by ‘bum
rushing' Wil after he ran from Fatima, but Wil was just to damn
‘majestic' for Smudge.
Wilhelm makes a ‘consanguinous boon' for the Assamites to keep them
off of him.
Lucinde bleeds the shit out of the Tzimisce. "I'm your huckleberry!"
Lambach summons a ‘war ghoul' to fight at his side.
Fatima tells Smudge to ‘kill the war ghoul.' Smudge replies in a whiny
voice, "Screw you, get it yourself!" Fatima shrugs and tries to rush
the war ghoul but Lam says, "I don't think so bitch! Combat
ensues…much brawling and blood was spilled. When the dust settles,
Fatima still stands…but for how long?
Luci calls for a ‘parody shift' but Dragos wakes from a ‘special
report' and blocks. Luci gives Dragos the ‘Kiss of Ra'….eww…and Dragos
goes to torpor.
The war ghoul, confused at having no masters, rampages and rolls over
Lucinde. The mudhole has been stomped! Luci is torped. …good ghoulie…
Dragos gets out of torpor.
The Giovanni, (having up to this time done nothing except be
brutalized by the Assamites), send Rudolpho to diablerize Lambach.
Dragos ‘reads the winds' like superfly TNT! Moving to long range with
‘chiropteran marauder' they shout naughty words at each other and go
home.
Tariq tries to eat Luci. Wilhelm, being the slave monkey that he is,
throws himself in the way and is all ‘majestic' and stuff. Smudge,
being the lowly opportunist that he is, sneaks along the path of death
created by the war ghoul and his Assamite masters, and eats Lucinde!
Dragos rescues Lambach.
Once Lambach wakes and is told of the nasty attempt upon him by
Rudolpho, he sends the war ghoul on a mission. The war ghoul has a
light snack. War ghoul number two, (having appeared sometime back),
rolls down the buffet line and poor ol' Wil was the shrimp cocktail.
Wilhelm, well you know, he is just to damn MAJESTIC, and the war ghoul
walks on by.
Abd al-Rashid and Lambach play patty cake when Wilhelm deflects a
bleed by Abd.
The Assamites, try as they might, could not pull themselves from under
the Ventrue boot, cry a little bit and go kill a Giovanni. Feeling a
little better about themselves, ‘bums rush' Wilhelm and play patty
cake once again. Thinking they have the Ventrue, they attempt another
bleed only to have Wil send them masterfully to the Tzimisce, who do
bleed.
The Assamites finally kill the Ventrue and there was much rejoicing!!
The Tzimisce war ghouls turn on the Assamites and make oreos out of
them. Assamites begin much thrashing and whining.
In the end, the Assamites, Malkavians, and the Tzimisce have a nice
cup of tea, play patty cake, and go home.
Here is a quick rendition of the play.
Assamites and Tzimisce, knowing the only winners in a fight between
them would be the others, more or less leave each other alone.
The Assamites quickly thrash the Giovanni, then the Malkavians until
they are helpless.
Between the rushes from their Assamite predator, and the wakes from
their Tzimisce prey, the Ventrue are finally ousted.
The Tzimisce war ghouls then quickly torp all the Assamites, thus
making the Assamite player totally helpless. In the meantime, the
Malks, having one vampire with a ‘secure haven' manage to finish off
the Giovanni.
As the Tzimisce are gearing up to bleed out the Malks, time runs out.
Assamites 1.5 VP
Malkavians 1.5VP
Tzimisce-Lambach 0.5 VP
Assamites, having been saved by the bell, win the final round by
having the most game wins going into the finals.
There ya have it,

I'd really like to hear how this deck works Matt, it seems very
different from anything I've ever put together as an Assamite deck.
But then, I've never won a tournament with Assamites. *sigh*

Yet another card I don't play much since it can't be used under IG.
You seem to have focused on it, how did it work? Was the punch for 1

Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but this isn't a legal
tournament deck. You can't have Ali Kar (group 3) in a crypt with
Smudge (group 1). I have no idea what the correct procedure for this
is. LSJ?

That's a sufficient answer - my thought was that while the tournament
is over, the tallying of Storyline tournament results don't end when a
single tournament does; for all I knew there might have been some
clause somewhere about an illegal deck not counting for storyline
results or whatever.

The Basic premise to the deck is rush the vampires early and often,
using the tastes of death to send big vampires to torpor, then eat
them with smudge. If smudge survives(which he usually does for fear of
peoples other voters being the next rushed_ he gets +1 hand damage
plus he now has a discpline card(which is always quietus for the taste
of deaths)the stutters steps are very useful if the bums rush IS
blocked as it keeps you from taking any nasty hand damage from your
opponent (and there is almost always another bums rush on the way)
not to mention one hand damage still hurts when its ag damage(ie with
sengir dagger) or adds up quickly with Bahk Nahgsor a chainsaw and
lucky blow(4 total damage and thats without a press or additional
strikes)not to mention the damage smudge now does with something like
bahk naghh or a gas powered chainsaw.(4-5 per hit due ot his damage
bonus from diablre along with a lucky blow)While the master card pool
is a bit high I find that is a weakness in most of my decks as i am
afraid to not have enough master cards and unfortunately with this
deck it is very hard to gain alot of pool back without them.I didnt
notice alot of stalling form the masters but thats mainly due to im
drawing alot of cards during combat anyway. As far as Ali Kar
(DAMMIT!!) He was a last minute addition and didt notice thats smudge
was series 1(i thought he was 2)All in all i feel the deck works well
as you tend to get out vampires fast and if they dont block your
rushes no one else gets vampires out at all. In all three rounds of
the tournament here, i found it easy to cripple both my predator and
prey. and the threat of a rush can do wonders when all an opponent has
is one high capacity vampire. Its weaknesses are blood pool gain and
keeeping the vampires stocked on blood I would like to have some more
taste of vitae so when i did stutter step i could refill my
vampire(and then refill my pool thru minion tapbut unfortunately for
some starnge reason i dont own any more then one)I DID find it
surprising that smudge rarely was burned from blood hunts( i assume it
was the fear of where my next rush would go or in some cases I was
helpin someone out by hurting their predator and they would vote
against the hunt)but it wasnt unheard of by the end of a round to have
smudge up to 5 capacity with master celerity and master quietus along
with his 2 hand damage and some bahk nahgs he became a force to reckon
with. and when he did fail Tariq was there to eat the victim in his
place.Fatima is great for getting weapons out as i have her rush, pull
a weapon, fight the battle then have another vampire take the weapon
from her.soon i have several small vampire out who are all armed to
the teeth which makes even close range a risky propisition. Stealth
bleed decks are a big fear to this deck as i dont carry any intercept
. During the tournament any stealth bleed decks were the first people
hit with rushes. I would cripple them just enough where all they could
do was attempt to hold off their prey(had this backlash me in the
final as my malk opponent got out a secured haven out on her last
vampire thus stopping my rushes)My next target was always voters, if
by this time i havent talked them into casting votes for me by that
is.I tend to leave combat deck for last unless they happen to be my
predator as they tend not to bleed alot and if i have crippled their
prey they usually sit there bleeding for one for several rounds as
their hand is jammed with combat cards. in the finals my second
mistake was holding off to long on the Lambach Deck as by the time it
came to him and I he had two war ghouls out and was intercepting like
mad. In hindsight I should have pressed my attack on him when the
first war ghoul was out and his two vampires were in torpor. A mistake
i will not forget for next time. If anyone has
some suggestions for this deck plz let me know as I am always open to
advice and thanks for taking a look at it

If there was some sort of gross or intentional error in procedure by
the judge or organizer to think that the results were sufficiently
corrupted, then (in storyline or any other sanctioned format), the
results might be excluded, sure.
But this doesn't really qualify for that, IMO.

Stutter-Step card text: make a hand strike and dodge
You cannot combine a weapon with this strike.
I hope you did not cheat in this way during the tournament.
I'm getting a little worried about you Elko boys.... :>
First an illegal crypt, now an illegal play of cards.

Nope, not at all.
You cannot combine a weapon with this strike.

That's why people think you will stall.
You move a lot of cards during combat, and then you replace them all
with masters. You have an insane number of master phase actions in
the deck. (27+whatever you put on the Secret Horde.)
>I would cripple them just enough where all they could>do was attempt to hold off their prey (had this backlash me in the>final as my malk opponent got out a secured haven out on her last

One shouldn't normally have to hold off their prey.
I hope you mean that they were just able to hold off their predator.

While we're on the subject -you can't play stutter-step if you have been
Immortally Grappled either (an easier mistake to make if you have old
cards).
Still if you are making weapons work well I'm all in favour of it.

Well ya learn something new everyday I always say. You see, Matt is
just a 'cheating ass roach'. No wonder he wins so often! Actually,
Matt is a very good player. Our local group in Elko, while maybe not
the best at knowing all the rules of VTES, does a pretty good job at
trying to learn them. I place the blame on myself for not knowing the
complete definition of 'hand-strike', as follows:
Hand Strike: any non-ranged, non-weapon strike that deals damage based
on the striking minion's strength, or any minion's non-ranged
damage-dealing innate strike. [LSJ 19970224]
I just looked this up in the errata, and now I know. We have
apparantly been using Stutter-step incorrectly with weapons. Just
reading the first part of Stutter-step, see below, you get a dodge and
then strike for strength damage.
Stutter-Step:
[cel] Strike: dodge. [CEL] Strike: dodge and inflict strength damage.
This damage may be modified by effects that modify hand damage. This
is both a hand strike and a dodge. It cannot be used if dodges are
restricted Only usable at close range. Not usable as an additional
strike, and this vampire cannot use any additional strikes this round.
As far as Matt's deck is concerned, Smudge could still be doing 3
damage with Stutter-Step. (+1 strength from diablerie and Lucky Blow)
Without Stutter-Step, he could do 3 agg with Sengir or 5 damage with
Gas-powered chainsaw or Bang Nakh. Correct? Not bad for a weenie.
As for the Ali Kar illegal crypt, no one noticed that either, and like
Matt said, he had only recently added it to his deck. I don't even
remember seeing Ali Kar show up during the tournament.
I hope this does not alter the results of our Storyline. No
intentional cheating was going on, only some misinterpretation of the
rules, and errors on our part. All in all, we had a great time, and it
was a fun event. Jeremiah had a lot of fun keeping track of the final
round events.

Wrong. Lucky Blow is still a *strike*. Stutterstep doesn't allow for the
playing of any more *strike* cards, in addition to its other limitations.
The easiest example of the "modify hand damage" clause is a Torn Signpost.

And I hope Smudge wasn't adding his +1 strength to the chainsaw as it

I know you are just joking, but they did pretty well this time around. I
got two wins, and I know of at least two other players who came in second.
None of us cheated.
Of course, if Scott would whip up some PTOish cards for us to use, we could
start "cheating" legally, just like everyone else.
