You know, GenCon is only a few days away now, and I haven't seen ANY
discussion of the variant tourney LSJ is running: Rapid Thought.
Briefly:
3-person tables
Banned: Minion Tap, Blood Doll, Tribute To The Master
45-minute rounds
40-70 card library
What's up with that? Nobody interested, or is everyone just keeping
their Deck Tech super-extra-secret?
Some folks I've asked about the format locally seem to think it'll be
weenie heaven, but I suspect some other archetypes could work as well.
Here's one idea I had.

Typically the "alternate-format" tournaments at major conventions get
small turn-outs and even less forum discussion.
I'll be running one or two "warm-up" Rapid Thought tournaments prior
to Gen*Con at the Week of Nightmares next week as well. Hopefully
that will help improve the turn-out.

What day is Rapid Thought again?
If it helps any, I do know one person in my playgroup who has been working on
his Rapid Thought deck. As for me, I barely have enough time to make normal
decks, let alone a special deck for this tourney! Anyway, as much as I love
Jyhad/VTES, I'd really like to actually do some "other" things at GenCon too...
=)

Is there any chance that this Rapid Thoughts style tournament become
homologated for official play ? I mean, i think it's very interesting and
may lead to create some tricky decks =)
If it requires a vote from the players, i'll be the first to say YEAH =D

V:EKN has historically not tended to sanction rules-variant formats,
but I have no idea if that's policy or just happenstance. I will say
that if the format is as much fun in practice as it sounds like, I
will probably run some unsanctioned mini-tournaments locally using it.
Certainly any other player is free to do that much.

Thursday, 7 pm.
But if you and 8 friends want to play one, let me know any time and I'll
get you going any time.

Yeah. Special-deck formats tend to have that problem.

Well, what I'd do is:
Abuse the banned list (bloat without those staples): obviously, bloat
and pool management is hindered. So work around it. Nikolaus, Eco
Terrorist, Art Museun, Arcane Library, Gov't superior, Powerbare:
Montreal, Cons Boon, etc.
Not that I'll be there...
