You know, GenCon is only a few days away now, and I haven't seen ANY discussion of the variant tourney LSJ is running: Rapid Thought. Briefly: 3-person tables Banned: Minion Tap, Blood Doll, Tribute To The Master 45-minute rounds 40-70 card library What's up with that? Nobody interested, or is everyone just keeping their Deck Tech super-extra-secret? Some folks I've asked about the format locally seem to think it'll be weenie heaven, but I suspect some other archetypes could work as well. Here's one idea I had. Deck Name: Rapid Jack Created By: WMW Description: Sheldon intercepts and abuses anything he can, while Jack lays waste to the table. Generally, you don't want to bring anybody but Sheldon and maybe Nikolaus out... might even go to 6 Sheldon (drop Luma & Sabine). Crypt: (12 cards, Min: 19, Max: 36, Avg: 6.75) ---------------------------------------------- 4 Sheldon ANI AUS for OBF POT 9, Nosferatu, Justicar 2 Nikolaus Vermeulen ani for obf POT 7, Nosferatu, Prince 1 Zack North ani for pot pro 6, Gangrel 1 Badger ani FOR pot PRO 6, Gangrel 1 Luma aus FOR pot vis 5, Gargoyle 1 Sabine Lafitte aus dom pot tha 5, Tremere 1 Calebros ANI obf pot 5, Nosferatu, Prince 1 Sammy ani obf pot 4, Nosferatu Library: (69 cards) ------------------- Master (10 cards) 1 Barrens, The 1 Golconda: Inner Peace (emergency pool gain) 1 Millicent Smith, Puritan Vampire Hunter 1 Powerbase: Chicago 1 Protected Resources 1 Rumor Mill, Tabloid Newspaper, The 4 Smiling Jack, The Anarch Action (6 cards) 2 Fourth Tradition: The Accounting, The (pool gain) 2 Judgment: Camarilla Segregation 2 Restoration Reaction (18 cards) 6 Cats' Guidance 4 Eagle's Sight (stop ousts) 8 Second Tradition: Domain, The (protect Jack) Combat (31 cards) 2 Fists of Death 6 Immortal Grapple 3 Increased Strength 4 Skin of Rock 4 Taste of Vitae 6 Torn Signpost 6 Undead Strength Retainer (2 cards) 2 Raven Spy Equipment (2 cards) 2 Sport Bike

Typically the "alternate-format" tournaments at major conventions get small turn-outs and even less forum discussion. I'll be running one or two "warm-up" Rapid Thought tournaments prior to Gen*Con at the Week of Nightmares next week as well. Hopefully that will help improve the turn-out. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. As for me, I barely have enough time to make normal decks, let alone a special deck for this tourney! Anyway, as much as I love Jyhad/VTES, I'd really like to actually do some "other" things at GenCon too... =) Halcyan 2

I mean, i think it's very interesting and may lead to create some tricky decks =) If it requires a vote from the players, i'll be the first to say YEAH =D reyda

I will say that if the format is as much fun in practice as it sounds like, I will probably run some unsanctioned mini-tournaments locally using it. Certainly any other player is free to do that much. Mark Woodhouse Prince of Minneapolis (rapid thinker)

Well, what I'd do is: Abuse the banned list (bloat without those staples): obviously, bloat and pool management is hindered. So work around it. Nikolaus, Eco Terrorist, Art Museun, Arcane Library, Gov't superior, Powerbare: Montreal, Cons Boon, etc. Not that I'll be there... Tobias Deventer
