New Vamp Esau has a special that says:
When Esau declares a bleed action, he may burn 1 blood to flip a coin.
If it's heads, Esau gets an additional +1 bleed for that action. +1
bleed. Oh yeah, and he has DOM AUS DEM PRE OBF, and he costs 10, he's a
Cam, a 3, and has no title. And he's Malki.
But the whole coin flip thing immediately made me think of Pokemon,
where at least 30%, and maybe upwards of 50% of the cards require a coin
flip for increased power. Not saying it's good or bad, it just is. All
I know for sure is that Esau is one damn brutal bleed monkey (can you
say Rush magnet?, I knew you could). And boy, am I glad to have another
self-portrait of Larry Snelly. But otherwise, love him.

Was just going to point out that a coin flip in VTES is not
unprecedented. Example being "Walk through Arcadia"

Where can I get my offical Vtes coin? I hope it doesn't cost too much. $20
would be about right I think. Notice that I only have to flip "a" coin.
Nothing about fliping a quarter or a sliver dollar or anything. Does that
meen that I can get a round piece of metal, write Heads on both sides with a
perminent ink pen and use that? Errata me baby!!
Just my 2 cents which should be worth at least a dime.

No.
Coin:
(2a) piece of metal issued by governmental authority as money
(4) something having two different and usually opposing sides
There may be other definitions that would match "a round peice of
metal" (esp. 2c), but that's where context comes in. Sorry.

Oh...so now we have the additional penalty of having to have pocket change
while playing the game? This is ABSOLUTELY TOO MUCH!!! I can't take
anymore of these new rules and regulations!

Yeah, I've brought that up before. I said "What's the official way to
flip a coin?" and things like "what's heads? I know nothing of this
'heads' thing? WHere's this in the rule book?". Can I roll a die and
do even/odd instead?
I suppose some card games require us to have some sort of outside
common sense... a shame really.

Speaking as a judge with some experience, anything like that that
required randomness could be substituted with anything similarly random,
as situations dictated. (Though a player including Esau might want to
bring along a few coins, just in case.)

A die is not a coin though the opposite is not necessarily true - I
picked up some D2 coin/dice at Origins (the faces are numbered 1 and
2). This comes up regularly when I'm judging as some players claim to
be able to control coin flips, especially with Pokémon coins. I think
that they are right but would rather supervise the flip to make sure
it's honest.
I don't trust dice either. I got quite uneasy at Origins when
Heroclix players produced dice other than the standard-issue Heroclix
dice. The judges didn't take the matter seriously but they were
generally having trouble getting up to speed with most issues ...

Apparently others disagree. At Origins, Kevin Mergen, Noal, and I got into an
interesting discussion about "rock, paper, scissors" (Malkavian Game). All
theoretical of course, but they were of the mind that a similar game based on 3
choices, each one beating one other, would not be the same (or allowable).
Though the discussion then drifted to what to do if you play Malkavian Game on
a paraplegic...

Rock/Paper/Scissors is not a purely random game; it cannot be, it
involves player choice.
You may, for instance, include discussion of what a player is going to
choose. "Hey, if I play this, it'll put you down to six pool and me
(cross-table) back up to three pool. And then you'll be able to hit
your prey, on seven pool, with that Parity Shift, and I stand a much
better chance of getting my prey as I'll be able to tap the Parthenon
and afford this Misdirection!" (Outlandish, yes.)
Similarly, Rock/Paper/Scissors may include a certain amount of
psychology or jockeying, from players so inclined. Numerous examples of
"psychics" (of the non-loony sort, who are just good at manipulating
people's reactions, rather than claiming mental abilities) have been
shown on telly over here. And you also stand a good chance of knowing
that Noal *always* picks scissors because everyone knocks scissors beats
everything, including that dumb rock, if you're a regular player.
Indeed, a deck devoted to a number of Malkavian Games may also be aware
of how people are responding to it, even over the course of a short game
or games. (e.g. I get to the final with it, and play someone I played
earlier again.)
Tossing a coin is (should be) purely random.

Damn...in my old age, I can't even type a single post correctly! What I *meant*
was that at *Madison*, Kevin Mergen, Noal, and I, ...
I'm sure that must have confused the hell out of everyone who knows that I
wasn't at Origins. Sorry for the slipup. With all the talk about Origins, I
must have made a Freudian slip. Yeah. Boy am I baD!

Noal was in Madison? Since when?

I use small coins as counters anyway - I can stack them on a card so
that the art and card text are still visible.
I know a guy who uses big plastic poker chips, you can hardly see his
cards at all!

Oops! You weren't supposed to know about that Xian! A while back we had a
clandestine Jyhad/VTES tournament. But since we didn't want you to be SPOILING
anything, we kept it hush-hush from you. Forget I said anything about it. Me

The vastly more common paraplegic's have lost use of their legs, not arms
and hands. Thus RPS isn't really all that difficult for them, and unless
the cam ed has a card that reads "leg westle your prey. the winner gets the
losers wallet" paraplegics should be able to continue to enjoy our game.

*eyes James suspiciously*
...and how did you know that I almost always pick scissors first
because most people throw paper on the first shoot? You and I have
never played VTES on the same continent. Apparently, the discussion I
had about R/P/S strategy has been mentioned elsewhere. Now, I'm going
to have to start throwing paper to get the people trying to beat my
scissors throw.
The funny thing is that after that conversation, Kevin tried to figure
out my psychological strategy of Malkavian Prank and got burned for 4
pool by it. For those that don't know, I always pick the same number
for everyone unless I'm specifically bailing out another player. In
this case, Kevin had gone with 4 during the 1st Malk Prank and then
prattled about psychology during the 2nd Prank. So I went 4 for
everyone, knowing that at least one player (Kevin, my predator at the
time) was going to show 4.

Noal

Oops! Did I say paraplegic? I meant quadriplegic. Me and my addled mind...
