So, is the chainsaw supposed to be a melee weapon? It doesn't say so on my card, but that would actually be a reason to use it over the sawed-off shotgun. This would be a great time for Tom to speak up and say that it's a typo. Sadly, I know it's probably not meant to be, but, hey, I can dream, can't I? Scott storm@tamsun.tamu.edu

Haven't you seen people juggle them? They make great thrown weapons. (You can only throw them once tho, so that's why they're usable only once per combat.) It says '3 damage' as opposed to '3R damage', so it is a melee weapon. -- Andre Kostur akostur@helix.net

But I still haven't gotten a response to my question about this, so assume for now that it's not, but stay tuned. "doesn't do ranged damage" and "melee weapon" are not necessarily synonymous. A weapon is only a "melee weapon" if it says so on the card (see Bastard Sword). Chainsaw doesn't say so, so isn't one. Ooops.... that's what I get for being careless about my words... :) I stand corrected. -- Andre Kostur akostur@helix.net

Why would anyone use the chainsaw, if one could use a sawn-off shotgun instead (both for 2 blood, 3 damage ONCE, but the chainsaw is uncommon, and the shotgun's damage is ranged) ? If the chainsaw were a melee-weapon, I'd say because of all those potence cards which increase damage, but as it is right now ... Did I overlook something, or did the playtesting department screw up ? Arne Gabriel

uk41@rzstud1.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de (Arne Gabriel) observes: >Why would anyone use the chainsaw, if one could use a sawn-off shotgun >instead >Did I overlook something, or did the playtesting department screw up ? As far as I can tell, you haven't missed anything. There are a couple of similar problems in the cards as it stands. Chainsaw redundant to Sawed-off Shotgun Concealed Weapon redundant to Disguised Weapon There are others which are debatable, but these are the main ones. I suggest the following solutions: Chainsaw: change to useable once per round, not once per combat. This makes the chainsaw more expensive than the Bastard sword and has very different properties. The Bastard sword is usable each strike and can be combined with Potence cards. The Chainsaw is useful if you can press, the sword with additional strikes and Potence cards. Disguised Weapon: Give this a vampire-blood cost of 1. This evens out with Concealed weapons disadvantage regarding limits on what it can be used with. Don't be afraid to issue your own errata! It's the only way to be sure you'll get a quick, fair ruling. 8-) Mad Chris, back-seat rules suggestions.
