Wind Dance's official release date is December 1, 2002.
That makes it legal for V:EKN constructed deck play on December 31, 2002.
(Some copies were inadvertently included in some storyline prize packages, yes.
But the official release date is still Dec. 1, 2002.)

I don't suppose you'd also be able to share some details like how people can
obtain Wind Dance cards? Also, are they promos or promo-only?

Hello LSJ,
while we are at it:
When is the official release date for "Eye of Hazimel" (read: when is
ist tournament legal)?
Thanks,

As an aside, I think that promo-only cards are a fantastic tool to help us
Princes get more people to their events. I don't suppose you'd be able to
let us know whether (and if so how many and what) more similar cards are
being planned by WW and your team? :)

Yeah, I悲 also like to know if we can expect that card in The Anarchs.
:) I expect I悲 need it in great quantities ( at least 12 ) to make a
THA deck using them work, so I hope it惻l be a common... <g>

More are in the works. We're also planning a storyline event for next year
where we'll be focussing on bringing new players to the event.

Sounds good to me! No clues or hints then on what they're gonna be, or who
gets the playtest them? :)
> We're also planning a storyline event for next year

We've actually found here in the UK that we've had a higher turnout for our
Storyline events rather than our other standard competitive events. I'd be
quite happy to shift offical play onto the former format as much as
possible.
I would suggest a timescale of a new card and a new Storyline event every 3
months (i.e. for each quarter of 2003)? Would that be too fast for the
majority of Princes and/or the RPG line developers?
Just to drop some suggestions into the pot, I would be very interested to
see cards that touch upon:
- the current whereabouts of Tremere (in Goratix's body)
- the current whereabouts of the mirror that contains Goratrix's trapped
soul
- the current whereabouts of Saulot (in Tremere's body)
- the sculpture of Cainite corpses (topped by Anatole) that exists in the
cave in upstate New York
- the influence of the trapped demonic entity trapped under the Carpathians
commonly referred to as Kupala
- the location in the Carpathians known as the Cathedral of Flesh
- the influence of the entity that has awoken underneath New York city
- the cabal of vampires that tried to summon the ultimate incarnation of
darkness at the old Lasombra castle in Sicily
- the rise in weak-blooded (14th and 15th generation) vampires
- the invasion of California by the Cathayan vampires
- the rise of Hunters
- the rise of Mummys
- the rise of Demons
The two Storyline cards so far have focused in the development of part of
the RPG setting that is based in the US. Is this trend going to continue, or
will we see the trend of promos following the card sets? E.g. for Q1, Q2 &
Q3 2003 we could see Anarch-related cards, and then for Q4 2003 onwards we
could see cards related to the Old World set (or whatever it turns out to
be)?

Wind Dance is promo-only which means it will never appear in an expansion,
it is only available as a promo card.

I think that would be way too many and story-line tourneys would quickly lose
their novelty. I think part of the fun of story-line tourneys *is* trying to
make an impact on the story-line, thus we have people going out of their way to
attend lots of tourneys. If they become too common, the novelty factor quickly
drops.
I think one storyline a year (maximum of two) is about the right number. We
have to make them special and something people look forward to attending. Also,
the timing thus far has been good as well. Mid-year from summer (when the big
U.S. Cons are) is just perfect. Also, if we have too many storyline tourneys,
that also means many promo-only cards, which may make it harder for newbies to
compete.
>Just to drop some suggestions into the pot, I would be very interested to
>see cards that touch upon:
Honestly, I doubt that we would (or perhaps even should) be deciding *major*
events in the storyline (which most likely have been decided already).
I'm fine with the scope of the storylines we've had so far.
In addition, I really think the storyline tournaments should focus on things
that will benefit a clan. Many of the things you suggested are of interest to
me, but I still don't think that they should be decided in VTES. For example,
control of Baltimore was definitely a big plus. Truth be told, I thought the
incentive for the Eye was a bit weaker since having control of it isn't
necessarily a "good" thing.
>- the influence of the trapped demonic entity trapped under the Carpathians
>commonly referred to as Kupala
This could perhaps work, which like the Eye it would be double-edged. Which
clan gains the favor of the demon Kupala.
>- the rise in weak-blooded (14th and 15th generation) vampires
Maybe a powerful 14/15th generation vampire has been found. The clan that wins
is able to claim him as their own?
>- the invasion of California by the Cathayan vampires
>- the rise of Hunters
>- the rise of Mummys
>- the rise of Demons
More doable since you can incorporate clan benefits easier. Clan-specific
allies or (probably better), generic allies that cost a pool cheaper if you
control a member of the appropriate clan?

If that is true, it doesn't seem fair that only SOME storyline tournaments received these cards and others did not. At least Xaviar
will eventually be publicly available, and The Eye of Hazimel was given out at EVERY storyline tournament.
I understand from a previous LSJ post on this subject that Wind Dance was not supposed to be sent out as prize support for the Eye
storyline tournaments. If *that* is true, White Wolf certainly has it in their power to rectify the situation.

I'm more concerned with the inherent unfairness that is any promo card that
does something a regularly available card doesn't do. No sense in adding
levels of unfairness to games that already have plenty of it.
>Not to be a whiner or anything...
Whining is bad. Ranting, though, ranting is all good.

For now, Wind Dance is part of the standard prize support package. You
are likely to receive them in the prize support for the next event you
run.

Same results here. In fact, we get a greater number of new players and
even LARPers crossing over for the events.

Might be tough to keep that pace up. From conception, to sign-ups,
lead-time for prize support, wait time for event results, compiling of
the results, creating the prologue, mining of the results for flavor
text and/or possible new cards, etc. I'm getting tired just thinking
about it.

On the flip side, a given promo-only card will quickly lose it's novelty
value anyway. Once most players in my area have one or two then they won't
be too bothered about getting any more. If however, a new promo-only card
becomes available say every three months, then this will constantly renew
player interest in attending events.
Can we compromise for promo-only cards more often, and formal Storyline
events less often? :)

IIRC the first event for 2002 was in February, and was dropped on most of us
without sufficient warning to get set up :)

That's not quite true. The emphasis would be on attending events, whether
oldie or newbie. I think it's perfectly reasonable to reward those who turn
up over those who don't bother. And the volume of promo-only cards should
not be too much of a concern as long as they are mainly flavour-orientated
rather than game-breaking-strategy type cards.

Err surely the Eye of Hazimel is a pretty major story element for the RPG?
:) Besides, the CCG is only providing general pointers in the direction of
the story - there's load of room for interpretation as far as WW themselves
are concerned...

Mike

The Wind Dance card is being included in regular prize support packs currently.

Well, I hope every player gets about 10 of them, because in the case
of Wind Dance it is a card which you need in great quantities to build
a deck around it, unlike the Eye of Hazimel or Meddling of Semsith. :)
As I said, on first look Wind Dance seems for me to be a THA common,
instead of a rare like I悲 view the Eye of Meddling.
BTW, LSJ, I kinda remember you saying something that Meddling would be
available in some form or other one year after the first storyline
event ? Or did I misunderstand something ?

I said that it would not be available until at least a year after the
initial release. And then any extra stock would possibly be distrubuted
at some unspecified date(s) after that by other unspecified promotional
means (tournaments, conventions, etc.)

Ah, good. :) Now I only got to get my Prince to organize some
tournament... <g> I want one or four Meddlings, y´know, because they
*really* help against those pesky combat decks. :)
