Just recently there came up some questions which I couldn't find in the
errata or revised rules.
1. What is the definition of a 'Ready Vampire' ?
The rules seem to indicate that it is synonym to active, wether tapped
or not, but the errata especially the parts on Disarming Presence and
Domain Challenge hint at 'Ready is active and untapped'.
2. Does voting tap a Primogen/Prince/Justicar ? Are tapped Vampires
allowed to vote ? [This also relates to question 1 since only ready
vamps may cast votes.]
If they don't tap and/or tapped vamps may vote I see no reason why I
should not use all my vamps during a vote.
3. Does playing a reaction card during a vote to gain additional votes tap
the reacting vampire ?
4. When using Effective Management to bring a Vamp from my crypt into my
uncontrolled region do I have to pay 1 pool ?
I'd say no, but you never know :-)
5. Are Vampires that contest titles still in play and are therefor able
to e.g. hunt or fight ? And can they be attacked ?
I'd say yes. Any comments ?
Bye, Michael

Ready: Controlled and not in Torpor. (Tapped or not)
I know of no conflict with this definition and Disarming Presence rulings.
Please inform me if I have missed a ruling or an interpretation.

Voting does not normally tap. You need not be untapped to vote. You
(generally) should use all your vampires to vote. Disarming Presence would
be one reason not to, threat of Voter Captivation might be another.

Reaction cards never tap, except as explicitly stated on a card. So, no.

No.

Yes. ('be attacked' by Bum's Rush, etc. - yes.). They only lose any
benefit derived from the title (votes, certain actions, immunity from
the 'Blood Hunt' action, etc.)

IMHO it would be nice if you have to be careful which of your vampire to
spend on which vote. It would allow for interesting tactics. You also
could try to bleed before starting political actions thereby removing the
(opposing) prince from the voting. Either you succeed in your bleed or the
political action(s) you have up your sleeve are more likely to pass. In
general the titled vampires would be less powerful.
The errata on Disarming Presence says:
'The Tapping is a side effect, not a cost, so tapped vampires
can still vote.[DTR]'
This seems to indicate that normally being tapped prevents you from
casting votes.
The errata on Domain Challenge says:
'Tapped minions are counted after the vote is completed.[DTR]'
If you won't tap on casting votes then what is the difference in counting
tapped minions at the beginning versus at the end.
Remember: according to rule 12.3 the acting minion is tapped [immediately].

Correct.

What it is trying to indicate is that tapped vampires can still vote
as normal under a Disarming Presence referrendum. If tapping was made
a cost by Disarming Presence, this would not be the case. Disarming
Presence simply adds a side effect (becoming tapped) to voting.

This errata was isssued w.r.t Disarming Presence. The amount of pool lost
is not determined when the conditions of the referrendum are set (before the
votes are cast), as many people once believed. The terms are: 'Each
Methuselah will lose pool equal to the number of untapped minions she
has when the vote is completed.' The only case (with the current set of
cards) when the timing of this counting matters is under Disarming Presence.

Almost correct. 11.1, Playing area: "A minion in the active region is
said to be _ready_." Active defines an area of the table, ready defines
the vampires in that region.
: The errata on Disarming Presence says:
: 'The Tapping is a side effect, not a cost, so tapped vampires
: can still vote.[DTR]'
: This seems to indicate that normally being tapped prevents you from
: casting votes.
It is a problem with the wording of DP, not with voting in general.
People were asking if, since you had to tap to vote _when a DP was in
play_, tapped vampires could vote at all, since couldn't be 'additionally
tapped'. The answer is the errata above.
: The errata on Domain Challenge says:
: 'Tapped minions are counted after the vote is completed.[DTR]'
: If you won't tap on casting votes then what is the difference in counting
: tapped minions at the beginning versus at the end.
: Remember: according to rule 12.3 the acting minion is tapped [immediately].
Similar song. People were wondering if the vampire used to call the
Domain Challenge counted as a tapped vampire, since he wasn't tapped
before the vote was called. The answer: count after the vote. (so the
person playing it loses at least 1 pool...)
I can see where, if you didn't see the questions that brought about these
rulings, there might be confusion. Hope this clears it up.

Just re-read DP. Should have done this before - wouldn't have made the
above (obsolete :-)) remark.
Thank you for responding.

No, what this means is that the vampires affected by DP tap as a side effect
of voting, not as a cost of voting. This means that an already-tapped vampire
can vote, and simply ignores the side effect.

Well, for one thing, Disarming Presence can cause vampires to become
tapped during a vote. But in general, vampires will be in the same
tapped/untapped stole when the vote passes (or not) as they were when
the vote process began.

Ready is active, tapped or no. Tapped vampires may vote, eg.

The only way voting taps a vampire is if a Disarming Presence is played on
the vote. (Not sure, but I think tapped vampires can still vote even
then.)

Reaction cards do not, as a rule, tap a vampire.

Not unless the card says so.

A contested vampire is out of play, for good or ill, until the contest is
broken.

Answering the actual question (as I failed to do last time :)) vampires
contesting a title can do anything except use the title. (The same for
unique equipment.)

Hi Andrew,
Actually, are you sure about this? I just reread the rules and it
wasn't clear....

A vampire contesting a title is free to act, react, and so forth. It
just can't make use of the title while it's contested.
If a minion has a card that becomes contested, such as a unique retainer,
it also continues to function normally, and just can't use the
contested card for the duration.
