These questions arose last night at our game and caused some confusion. Please help me out. 1) If a vamp has 1 blood, how much agg. dam. does it take to burn it? I would say 3, 1 to wound, 1 to burn the 1 point of blood and 1 to burn... Is this correct? 2) Chandler Hungerford blocks Dragos(with Depravity and Sup Vic). Dragos Plays Carrion Crows and Body Arsenal, Chandler plays Flesh of Marble. Is the 1 point of dam. Chandler receives agg. or normal dam.? 3) Can I burn Form of Corruption with no counters on it, to take control of a vamp with no blood. The numbers of counters equals the amount of blood... Thx Monterossi

Assuming the vampire isn't already wounded: 2 normal damage - first damage healed, second damage not healed, torpor 3 normal damage - first damage healed, second damage not healed, goes to torpor, all other damage is just not healed. 1 agg, 2 normal - first normal healed, second normal not healed, wounded, the point of agg must have blood burnt to avoid destruction - can't, burnt 2 agg, 1 normal - first normal healed. Non-wounded vampire, so first point of agg damage wounds the vampire. 2nd point must have blood burnt to avoid destruction, because the vampire is wounded. Can't, so burnt. 3 agg - first point wounds the vampire. Second point causes the vampire to burn a blood to prevent destruction. 3rd point needs a blood burnt to prevent destruction - can't, burnt. >2) Chandler Hungerford blocks Dragos(with Depravity and Sup Vic). Dragos >Plays Carrion Crows and Body Arsenal, Chandler plays Flesh of Marble. Is the >1 point of dam. Chandler receives agg. or normal dam.? Carrion Crows and Body Arsenal resolve at the same time. So Chandler can choose to let either the normal or the aggravated be taken (since they were dealt simultaneously) and then have the rest prevented by Flesh of Marble - up to Chandler. In a combat with Flesh of Marble, the vampire must take at least one damage - so the first point of damage they take must be taken. But when two points are dealt simultaneously, you can choose which to take and which to prevent (at superior). If it were at inferior and you had, say, a point of Weather Control damage before range and a point of aggravated hand damage then - before range you'd have to take one damage to satisfy Flesh of Marble. Then during strike resolution, you couldn't prevent the aggravated damage (inferior FoM) so you'd end up taking both. >3) Can I burn Form of Corruption with no counters on it, to take control of >a vamp with no blood. Thx, this clears things up a bit. Damn that FoM is good... "James Coupe" <ja...@zephyr.org.uk> skrev i en meddelelse news:JYw2Nmc+...@gratiano.zephyr.org.uk... [ quoted text not captured ]

As the rest of this message concerns Flesh of Marble, I'm top posting the card text for reference: FLESH OF MARBLE Only usable before range is chosen. If the vampire takes (and does not prevent) more than 1 damage in a round, excess damage is prevented, although aggravated damage cannot be prevented. This lasts for the duration of combat. SUP: As above, but aggravated damage can be prevented. _______________________________ >In message <3c41a9c6$0$35455$edfa...@dspool01.news.tele.dk>, Martin >Monterossi Munch <monte...@hotmail.com> writes: < Snip > >>2) Chandler Hungerford blocks Dragos(with Depravity and Sup Vic). Dragos >>Plays Carrion Crows and Body Arsenal, Chandler plays Flesh of Marble. Is the >>1 point of dam. So there should be a stack of 2 regular + 1 agg. >So Chandler can choose to let either the normal or the aggravated be >taken (since they were dealt simultaneously) and then have the rest >prevented by Flesh of Marble - up to Chandler. Why is this an either or? If all the damage is in the same stack, wouldn't Chandler simply opt to accept the 1 point regular damage and ignore the rest? >In a combat with Flesh of Marble, the vampire must take at least one >damage - so the first point of damage they take must be taken. But when >two points are dealt simultaneously, you can choose which to take and >which to prevent (at superior). As Flesh of Marble tallies all damage taken at the end of the round (meaning all damage should be placed in a stack), it was my understanding that agg. damage is prevented before regular damage. So in the listed situation, shouldn't Chandler only take 1 point of regular damage? >If it were at inferior and you had, say, a point of Weather Control >damage before range and a point of aggravated hand damage then - before >range you'd have to take one damage to satisfy Flesh of Marble. Sure, makes sense. > Then during strike resolution, you couldn't prevent the aggravated damage >(inferior FoM) so you'd end up taking both. However if you had superior Protean any damage recieved during the strike phase would be ignorable (excepting damage that is by card text unpreventable), correct? That's just... Eeevil.. I like it :-) >James Coupe > You remind me of the babe. What babe? > The babe with the power. What power? > Power of voodoo. Who do? > Do what? Remind me of the babe. If all the damage is in the same stack, >wouldn't Chandler simply opt to accept the 1 point regular damage >and ignore the rest? Because the stack is unordered. Healing damage is ordered. Taking and preventing damage is not. For instance, if I take one point of aggravated damage and one point of normal damage and I play Skin of Rock, I can choose which is prevented. Since Flesh of Marble is now dealing with two simultaneously dealt bits of damage, you can choose which are prevented and which are taken. (Within the guidelines Flesh of Marble allows, of course.) >>In a combat with Flesh of Marble, the vampire must take at least one >>damage - so the first point of damage they take must be taken. But when >>two points are dealt simultaneously, you can choose which to take and >>which to prevent (at superior). > >As Flesh of Marble tallies all damage taken at the end of the round Not true. >(meaning all damage should be placed in a stack), Damage is dealt with as it occurs. [LSJ 2000-11-22] - http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=8vggnm%24ie5%241 %40nnrp1.deja.com should aid you with this. Damage must be dealt with when it occurs, else the vampire could have unhealed damage following the respective phases of inflicting damage - so he wouldn't even last until the end of the round. Damage is never healed retrospectively; it must be dealt with as it occurs. >it was my >understanding that agg. damage is prevented before regular damage. No, but agg damage can be prevented before regular damage. In an instance of two points of damage, one agg, one normal, coming at you, and you having one point of Skin of Rock, you can prevent either the normal damage or the aggravated damage - your choice. (Certain instances might benefit from this. Perhaps you are in combat with your predator on one blood (say, he blocked a hunt) and he has played Fame on you. This will, finally, oust your prey if it's still there next turn and you can afford the pool loss - so you prevent the normal damage and go to torpor. Mostly unusual, but possible.) >So in the listed situation, shouldn't Chandler only take 1 point of >regular damage? "Should", potentially. He can choose, since they are dealt simultaneously and he's playing with superior Flesh of Marble. Were it at inferior, he would probably choose to make the aggravated point of damage count as the damage he takes that round. >> Then during strike resolution, you couldn't prevent the aggravated damage >>(inferior FoM) so you'd end up taking both. > >However if you had superior Protean any damage recieved during the >strike phase would be ignorable (excepting damage that is by card text >unpreventable), correct? That's just... Eeevil.. I like it :-) Assuming, as in my example, you'd taken (say) Weather Control damage earlier, sure. But assume that the damage you'd taken was one point of hand damage. Flesh of Marble won't kick in on the first point of damage, so you have to take it. Then a Blur followed by some unpreventable damage (possibly Assamites, say) would mean that none of the damage could be prevented. The other way round - the unpreventable first then the one point hand damage - and the hand damage could be prevented, Flesh of Marble satisfied you've taken one point of damage this round. > >On a side note, I recall this quote a bit differently, of course that >may just be my mind playing tricks (age, ya know) >- cool quote, Abbot and Costello right? Assuming Chandler has fortitiude :-) Let's assume a Vampire has superior Fortitude, cannot Skin of Rock prevent both the 1 point of Agg & 1 point of normal even though they derive from differing sources? > Since Flesh of Marble is now dealing with two simultaneously dealt bits > of damage, you can choose which are prevented and which are taken. > (Within the guidelines Flesh of Marble allows, of course.) > > >>In a combat with Flesh of Marble, the vampire must take at least one > >>damage - so the first point of damage they take must be taken. Actually, that did help. [ quoted text not captured ] Yep, I pretty much knew this via card text (damage being unpreventable) > The other way round - the unpreventable first then the one point hand > damage - and the hand damage could be prevented, Flesh of Marble > satisfied you've taken one point of damage this round. Thanks James, that pretty much clarifies things for me. > >On a side note, I recall this quote a bit differently, of course that > >may just be my mind playing tricks (age, ya know) > >- cool quote, Abbot and Costello right? > > It's used in Labyrinth and is generally regarded as coming from there... It can, so long as the different sources are inflicting their damage at the same time (e.g., in (normal) "strike resolution"). -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
