I'm a MtG newbie. Two weeks, and I wiped my cash reserves into the game. But
don't dismay, for I am off to the bank. I have not been keeping up with
gaming magazines of any sort, so could somebody give me a brief summary of
the Dark and Jyhad? Something like the makers, just what they are (stand
alone games, expansion sets, ect), and approximate release dates? Thanks
all.
I have to say I am very very excited about Jyhad:
"Methalusah's Finger", I now control your dragons.
"Bloodlust", your vampyre goes into bloodlust and they destroy each other.
Ah. The Joy of Anticipation. Perhaps sweeter than the end result itself.
No, I am not obsecced yet. Obsecced is 90%+ of the time. I'm at most,
60%+

Both Jyhad and The Dark are Produced by Wizards of the Coast. While The
Dark is being billed explicitly as a supplement to Magic the Gathering,
Jyhad is being promoted as a stand-alone game which is only semi-
compatible with Magic. The Dark is due Real Soon Now (tm); word is the
first shipment should be in the stores in a couple of weeks. Actually,
one local store (I will name no names, to avoid embarrassing the guilty)
has been claiming up and down that it will be in this week, but Everything
I have seen elsewhere denies this.

I don't think they plan on making Jyhad even remotely compatible to
Magic, but I could be wrong... As for when the Dark is out, Tom said that
it should be out next week, possibly this week. Keep your eyes open for them.

The Dark is an expansion for Magic the Gathering. It's a normal expansion,
about the size of Arabian Nights or Antiquities. It should in late July -
though that's looking less likely at this point ;) - or early August.
Vampire: the Jyhad is the next game in the Deckmaster series, and is
a completely separate game from Magic. The gist of the game is where
"you and your opponents play ancient vampires who use political manipulation
and force to dominate other vampires". It should be out for GenCon.

As was pointed out in Tom's post, and in a number of email messages, my
statement that Jyhad was supposed to be "semi-compatible" with Magic seems
to be wrong. I should note, however, that my information was gotten from four
seperate sources, including three store owners who carry WoTC's products, all
of whom told me this seperately, and each of whom used the exact same phrase
for Jyhad: "semi-compatible with Magic." I thought the phrase had been used
in a press release from the consistency with which it was used.
If it is not supposed to be compatible with Magic, it should perhaps be noted
that some storekeepers believe the opposite. I'm glad to be corrected by those
who know better.

Jyhad has never been advertised as being compatible with Magic. People may
have assumed they'd be at least "semi-compatible" since they're both Deckmaster
games, but they're really about as compatible as Monopoly and chess... you
could combine them if you really wanted to, but it would take some work.
Well, maybe not as much work as combining Monopoly and Chess ;)
