...aside from the completely different card layouts? :-)
IIRC, Bloodlines' Patrol and Soar "incorrectly" have each other's
illustration, a la Parnassus and Melek.

?
No. The BL versions of Patrol and Soar had their proper respective art.

That is my story, be it bitter or be it sweet.
Keep a little and let a little come back to me.

Going further: "a la Parnassus and Melek"?
That is new to me. Parnassus' art seems so appropriate for a +1
strength vampire, specially in comparison to Melek...
But maybe that's what caused the swap in first place, if this info is
correct.

IIRC, I think Mike is referring to the fact that Steve Ellis' piece
Soar, was originally titled Patrol. Whether that may have been his
personal title for the piece or whether there was a mixup is unknown
however. David & Robyn, who own that piece may be able to clarify more.

There did seem to be a mix-up at some point.
The story goes...
Todd Banister was so in love with Parnassus that he labored desperately
to acquire the original artwork. He contacted L.A. Williams multiple
times yet Mr. Williams was unable to find any piece in his collection
entitled "Parnassus." At some point, some other Atlantean (either Mike
Perlman or one of the Tatus) actually managed to find the Parnassus
piece among Mr. William's pieces. The reason Mr. Williams had not been
able to find the piece originally was because it was entitled "Melek"
not "Parnassus." Hence it was pieced together that the artwork for
Melek and Parnassus must have been accidentally swapped at some point.

No mix up. When the art came it, it was judged that the pieces named
"Soar" and "Patrol", although they matched the art notes given to the artists
perfectly, each invoked the other's concept better. So they were purposefully
exchanged before ever being released under any name.

Nope. Wake has the same art it always has.

Oh, man! I hope WW doesn't do this often! "Not at all" might have been
better.
(Thought for the day. CCG gamers banging their heads on tables repeatedly
might be beautiful. But I ask you: is it art?)

Doesn't do what?
I think you've misread what I wrote.
The artwork was not purposefully exchanged for LoB.
It was purposefully exchanged in BL -- that is, for the first printing
(in which case, it isn't an exchange at all, except in terms of what the
artists had named their pieces of artwork and what the card names were
that displayed the art).
The reprints in LoB should have had the same artwork that the original
cards had had in Bloodlines. The switch in LoB was not purposeful. It
was a mistake.

OK, sorry. That was a bit difficult to pick out from the context.
Anyway, I'm sure glad WW didn't do the switch back on purpose.

?
The context at that point was art that had been commissioned for
one card but wound up being printed on a different card (per Eric's
raising of that issue). I was just following along with that context.

Quite right.

Right. But I only read your post with quoted context. What was not
spoken was _when_ that decision had been made. Turns out - when I
look back through the thread a bit, that you both were discussing
something that happened during the Bloodlines release. Nothing in
your post made it extremely clear you weren't talking about something
that happened in the Legacies released so I ASS-umed and the rest
is history.
Sorry, it's just hard to resist jumping in without reading back far
enough.

However... IIRC, Wake with Evening's Freshness in the RPG is a Thaumaturgy
ritual, so it is possible that the WWEF card may have been a THA card at
some point in the original playtesting.
Imagine how different the game would have been if only the Tremere had
access to wakes!

It's a Thaumaturgy ritual that lets you act during the day IIRC, which
means if it required THA, it would probably only help you block allies. As
it stands, its chief use is to block vampires, which means your blocking
vampire should be able to react if he wakes up quickly, i.e. with
Evening's Freshness.

Unlikely, since Wake was printed in Jyhad and Forced Awakening was
printed several years later in Sabbat.
IMHO, the likely scenario if as follows: the art director did not like
the original version of Wake with Evening's Freshness (most likely done
by Jeff Menges) and at the last minute, had Randy Gallegos do a
version, which ended up being the one used.

Well, if you really like these stories...
Back when Wizards was still printing VTES, for Dark Sovereigns, the
artwork for Rutor's Hand was originally intended for Tremere
Convocation. But apparently they felt that it didn't fit their
conception of a Tremere Convocation and created a different card for
it.
