This may seem stupid, but I do know of several other players that are
affected by this and at least one that was affected monetarily. I can
not read post on this site between my calls (inbound call I am not a
part of the great evil of telemarketing) at work because a very few
people use language that would get my written up for if I was observed
looking at it. I don't want to point out particular people like David
Oros but I would really like to read this group more and I could if
everyone would agree to keep it clean.
I would like to reiterate that this is not a personal thing; I would
just like your help working around the rules of the company I work for
so that I could read this group more.
Thanks

What kind of employer would do this? Perhaps you should find a job where
the people you work with are less authoritarian...

Sorry man but no. I don't swear often, but when I do, it's for a good
reason. I appreciate your situation, but I don't think it's reasonable
to expect everyone else on a newsgroup to modify their language because
of it.
Now get back to work! :)

well, being unemployed myself i can appreciate the desire to

I felt a little twitch of conscience after writing the above article.
I offered only destructive criticism, not constructive advice.
So here's my advice:
Do as I did - buy an internet connection to your home.
As long as you live in a reasonable country and choose a good Internet
Service Provider, no-one can stop you from reading all the articles you want,
from any groups you want. Your employer's policies should not apply to your
personal life, or your free time.
If you only want to read the news, and not play the latest games, you can
buy an antique underpowered computer for peanuts, perhaps install a free and
fast Linux operating system, and your ISP bill will be the only expense that
matters.
(Remember to check for the quality of the ISP's news service! Choose one
that carries all the groups and has no censorship.)
My main point still being: it is far easier to solve your problem by
changing your behaviour, than by changing the behaviour of all the hundreds
or thousands of people that use this newsgroup.

I suspect that the issue is that Chuck wants to read it at work; not
that he can't do so at home.

Wish i could help, old chap, but the NG is the last place where REAL
free speech takes place, and i'm sorry to say i think this is more
important than your personal access. Am i saying that free speech is a
luxury confined to the few? Sure. Better that, than that it should not
exist at all.
Chuck,
Please tell me where I have
used profanity, other than the post about the black hand? I
see your point that to have civillized conversations, we
should be considerate of other peoples tolerances, but
you are asking that I help you can get paid to read the newsgroups?

For those who are interested, I often stop reading at the first foul word.
Only if something in the preceding text indicated that something of worth
would follow would I consider continuing.
But that has more to do with the civilized nature of this group than
with my own sensibilities. In this environment, vulgarity is an indication
that nothing useful will follow (and my message-reading budget isn't
what it once was).

Well I have to agree with my critics, but I still needed to ask. I can

David,
Please don't start up another flame exchange as you did with Reyda. I
am certain that it would be possible to go through and check if you indeed
used profanity. I really don't care myself as I read the newsgroup at home.
What I am quite tired of is the bickering flames and the abusive attacks
contained within them with or without profanity. As legbiter has pointed
out this is in fact a bastion of free speech and as such you can do what you
want. It is too bad that lately you have reduced yourself to such a low
standard. I would expect more from one in your position than petty
squabbles and excusing them by suggesting that you should not bother to be
considerate because he is at work and you don't want to encourage someone to
get paid to read a newsgroup.
It is my hope that despite your guarding at the end that you did in fact
get the point about having civilized conversations and being considerate of
other peoples tolerances. My guess is that your behavior will speak louder
than your assertion.

David,
I took a moment to save Chuck the frustration of doing so and cut and

You might be a little more careful in the future Scott.
David Oros is in Michigan and made none of the posts you quoted.
David Cherryholmes is in North Carolina, and I recognize most of the
posts as his.
David Tatu is in Georgia and has never posted to this newsgroup.
David Hammond is in England and back in the day posted Gangrel
newsletters on occasion.
David McCarty posts frequently in support of the Setites.
Dave Bastijns won the EC 2002.
Dave Brereton posts from the Canadian wastelands.

King David, father of Solomon (or was he his son ?), was a King of the
antcient Kindgom of Judah. He have never post on this NG (i guess...).
He have "perhaps" use such words, but :
1) I have no proof at all.
2) He was a King, so i suppose he have the right to do so.
3) Times were pretty hard during this era, so i guess we can forgive
his words.

Yep... You chose to respond to his jabs as I now choose to respond to you
etc etc takes two to tango and this is likely a mistake to respond at all to
you but I think I owe at least all other Dave's an apology.

bickering. 2. I don't post my job title etc in my tags

Ah yes you've stung me here I did indeed get the wrong David. I had thought
of saying something before but stopped myself as I didn't want to contribute
to the silliness and alas I have been sucked into it. At least I can say

Just stop and think a moment. Does the phrase "you started it by

So what if my title is there? I do a lot of work-related emailing, and I
don't feel like having two sigs. Is a sig important?

Drop the provocative stance, buddy. I didn't "sting" you, nor was I
trying to. If nothing else, you should at least grant that it's obvious
when I'm trying to be insulting.

You haven't been "sucked" into anything. You jumped in, for whatever
reason.

LOL.
At least we are in a lucky position. There is only one guy named Johannes
and only one guy named Kamel. No confusion possible.
Note that these two guys sometimes, really only sometimes, also use bad
language but usually only in French language (DTC!)so most of you do not
have to bother :-)

I would like to interrupt this flaming to make an apology to David
Oros, for one possibly two things first, for including your name in my
post and not David Cherryholmes. It was irresponsible for me not to
check and make sure I had the right David.
Second and more complicated; I am no longer sure which David is which,
and I think that I might be combining Davids. I meant the post of
David Cherryholmes and the David that used to play with use in
Seattle.
