Only causing the damage to remain unresolved, or by setting the
damage dealt to zero. (Strike: Combat Ends, Destroy Weapon with First
Strike, a (non-existent?) ranged version of blood rage, etc.)
Dodge will not prevent damage that targets a retainer.

Yes. Only dodging the strike as a whole (or ending combat) will prevent
the other parts of the strike's effect.
