I have a few questions about 1st strike. I would appreciate any help I could get. 1. If someone attacks with 1st strike, is range determined before combat starts, and can both participants add manuevers or just the attacker? 2. With the Muddled Vampire Hunter, it saids it deals 4 damage. Is that close or range? Also, has anyone heard anything on the new expansion set coming out? Is it just more clans or is it something new? Happy hunting Mario

Combat Sequence Each round of combat has the following phases: 1) Establish range by maneuver. 2) Choose strike. 3) Resolve strike. 4) Any additional strikes. 5) Press. The acting minion always decides/declares first. The answer is that you set up the range of the combat before first strikes occur. fmf> 2. Thus Muddles' damage is only close range. Of course, if our friend Muddles has a weapon -- say an Assault Rifle or Submachine Gun and moves to long range somehow.... Lots of first strike damage and hopefully, muddles won't even be touched! -- Jack Vinson The Purple Puddle Eater and Captain Jack vin...@unagi.cis.upenn.edu WWW: "http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~vinson/home.html" "Skin ain't got no tailored pockets." - Eat _Sell_Me_a_God_

Both participants can add maneuvers unless restricted by a special card (e.g. Drawing Out the Beast). > 2. With the Muddled Vampire Hunter, it saids it deals 4 damage. > Is that close or range? "Muddles"' damage is listed as "4 damage", which always means Close. If Muddles could do damage at range, it would be listed as "4R damage". Note that Muddles can be equipped with a weapon. If he is, he still gets First Strike, but does whatever damage his weapon does. > Also, has anyone heard anything on the new expansion set coming > out? Is it just more clans or is it something new? No news, sorry. papillo the paroplastic

Round of combat: Choose Range (Acting Minion get first shot at maneuvering). Acting Minion Announces Strike. (fisrt strike or normal strike). Blocking Minion Announces Strike. Strikes Are resolved in the following order: Strike End combat. Strike: dodge Strike with First Strike Other Strikes. Range is never determined before combat starts, but only before strikes are chosen. > 2. With the Muddled Vampire Hunter, it saids it deals 4 damage. >Is that close or range? It doesn't say 4R, so it can't be used at long range.

No, the correct order is : Strike End combat. Strike with First Strike Strike : Dodge Other Strikes. Dodge is a normal strike card (according to the rules) so First Strike is resolved before. -- David Paven alias VYGER e-mail : pa...@scinfo.u-nancy.fr

But then the dodge resolves and negates the effect of the other strike, be it first strike or not, so effectively the dodge resolves first [pg. 35] see also: Design Team Ruling 12/22/94: 4) Dodge will cancel a first strike. Ah, but Dodge as a normal strike card negates the opponent's strike. Even their First Strike. This has been ruled previously. Effectively, you do resolve Dodge before First Strike. papillo the merciless
