Me, Myself and some friends of mine are somewhat uncertain WHEN one can play 'Claws of the dead' and 'Wolf claws' during a fight. Can one play it as one announces ones strike or does one have to announce it pre- strike/manuver/etc. I'd be happy if someone had some "extended" rules to send to clerify as much as possible.

Order of events: 1) pre-combat cards 2) pre-range determining cards 3) manuevers 4) strike 5) last chance to play pre-damage resolving cards (i.e, last chance for wolf claws, though they can be played anywhere from 2-5) 6) damage resolution 7) [rest of combat omitted] Hope that helps. A strike's modifiers do not "lock in" when the strike is played. Rather, you wait until strike resolution to see what the exact effect is. In the case of Wolf Claws, the modifier will apply if and only if it has been played before strikes are resolved, but whether it was played before the strike was declared is unimportant. Wolf Claws and Claws of the Dead can be played before or during the strike, but this is NOT necessary. It is often better to declare a simple hand strike and wait to see if the other vampire dodges or does a Strike: Combat Ends before playing Wolf Claws or Claws of the Dead. WC and CoD can be played any time during combat, but in order to be effective, they must be played before the damage prevention part of strike resolution. For example: Chandler Hungerford and Emerson Bridges are in combat. Chandler claws at Emerson with his hands, but is waiting to see what his opponent does before popping Claws. Emerson decides to go hand-to-hand with Chandler. Now that both vampires have chosen strikes, we enter strike resolution. This is Chandler's last chance to pop Claws since the damage prevention phase of strike resolution is coming up. Clearly, Emerson is at the advantage here: if Chandler uses Claws, Emerson has the option to prevent it. If not, Emerson can decide to take the 1 measly point of damage without wasting a damage prevention card. Note that Chandler MUST decide whether or not he wants to use agg. damage before any damage prevention occurs; he cannot wait and see whether Emerson prevents the damage before deciding to use Claws.
