Can a vampire with depravity still use retainers he acquired before he had depravity? Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Card text: "Depravity (Ancient Hearts) 1 pool -- Master Unique Master. Put this card on a ready vampire you control. This vampire gets +1 <strength> with each strike and gets +1 stealth when attempting diablerie. He or she cannot recruit allies or employ retainers. " Once depravity is placed on the minion, he can no longer take the action to bring an ally into play, nor can he take the action to bring a retainer into play. This does not effect retainers he already has, as they have known of his depravity for a while, but it is too late for them. IANALSJ, but I play one on TV. Carpe Noctem. And of course you can give him new retainers with Heidelburg, right? I guess that's the punishment for being a bad retainer. You get traded to a new Depraved master! Halcyan 2

[ quoted text not captured ] Right. Unlike Beast, a Depraved vampire is only prevented from taking particular actions, not from having particular cards. Note: a Depraved Patrizia Giovanni cannot use her special ability, since that special ability action uses the "employ" template. By contrast, Darius Styx can use his special ability and will obtain a retainer as appropriate, even if he is Depraved, since the action is not an "employ" action. Things get slightly muddled when you look at retainers like Resplendent Protector and Ghoul Escort, which use "employed" as the continuing state in which the retainer finds itself. But I don't think that complication will cause any problems. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
