If I have someone in Torpor, can I bring the same vamp out of my uncontrolled region, contest myself, and then give-up the vamp in Torpor my next turn? You CAN contest yourself...correct? So, this should be legal.

I'm a fairly serious player, and I'd appreciate it. What's he gained? A vampire of capacity X leaves torpor, filled to capacity. What's he lost? X+1 pool, and a slot in his crypt. What if he had put a different vampire of capacity X in that slot? Well, now he'd have that vampire out and filled, a vampire in torpor that he can go rescue if the opportunity presents itself, and one more pool than he had in the other scenario. Hunter -- J. How can you possibly contest a vampire with yourself? Contesting is based on 1 Methuselah struggling for the loyalty and service for the vampire over another meth. You simply cannot say "Well, I'll give you the prime pickings of the hunting grounds if you desert ME to serve ME for now on." However, I've been wrong before (Ken can give you all numerous examples), but this just doesn't make sense. Mike

Mike, In the rule book, it mentions that you should take care not to contest yourself. Therefore, it must be possible!

[ quoted text not captured ] In response to Ken "Mr. Loophole" Mikolaj <g>, I say: yeah, yeah, so it does. However, that SHOULD only apply to equipment and such, IMHO. So there are a few silly rules. I still think we should not abide them in local games. Like that rule on: "Hey, I stole the Sengir Dagger from Brent but he's ousted now so the equipment vaporizes." HUH?!?! Mike

Well actually in some of our games we've been able to do quite a lot of funny things with Malk Dementia, then contesting yourself and then giving the other one up... Example: I've got a Gilbert Duane, which my predator controls with a Malk Dementia and comes in for a bleed, forcing me to torporize him with a Basilia. During his Influence he brings *another* Gilbert Duane in from his uncontrolled and simply says, 'hey, I've contested myself. I don't wanna do that. So I'll just give your Gilbert away'. Now imagine my expression there... Anyway, the appliction of the rules does seem a bit ambiguous there - though I haven't been able to spot anything illegal in it. Any official ruling on this, anyone? -- The Coffee-Drinker

Also, until recently (09/06/95), this method of hosing a Malkavian wasn't allowed (and rightfully so, since card text prohibits the Dement-Contest-Yield festival). But the DT, ingrained with Mt$ munkinized rulings, felt like tormenting another aspect of the rules in an attempt to keep all current and prospective players confused. -- ----- L.
