Nightstick [LotN:U] Cardtype: Equipment Cost: 1 pool Melee weapon. Strike: strength+1 damage. Or strike: prevent 3 damage [to this striking minion] from the opposing minion's next hand or melee weapon strike this round (including any currently-resolving hand or melee weapon strike). Only usable once each round. Lam Into [TR:C] Cardtype: Combat Discipline: Fortitude/Potence/Vicissitude Requires an anarch. Do not replace until after combat. Strike: hand strike or use a melee weapon strike. [for] This strike is at +1 damage, with an optional maneuver. [pot] This strike is at +2 damage. [vic] This strike is at +1 damage, with an optional press. If another round of combat occurs, range is automatically close. Two questions: 1) If I play Lamb Into as a strike using Nightstick, can I use it with the Strike: Prevent 3 damage to do damage and prevent? 2) Do you have to announce which of the two Nightstick strikes you are using as you announce that you are striking with a Nightstick via Lamb Into? Thanks, Brandon

Note: the card is "Lam Into", not "Lamb Into", as your quoted text supports. > Two questions: > 1) If I play Lamb Into as a strike using Nightstick, can I use it with > the Strike: Prevent 3 damage to do damage and prevent? No. The damage prevention strike is a specific strike, as is Lam Into, or any other strike card. > 2) Do you have to announce which of the two Nightstick strikes you are > using as you announce that you are striking with a Nightstick via Lamb > Into? You would have to declare which option you're using if you had a choice, but you don't. Jesse

Incorrect. Lam Into tells you to Strike: use a melee weapon strike, so you can any strike provided by the melee weapon. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad/msg/2c4dc6f9eda1853f LSJ, replying to Meej asking about Nightstick's prevent damage strike: *** > Could you use Undead Strength to add damage to it? You could select the non-damage-dealing strike when using the melee weapon Nightstick with Undead Strength, sure. As always, adding damage to a strike that doesn't deal damage has no effect, so the strike still won't do damage. *** So you can play it and use the card, but it won't usually do you any good - you'll just get a Prevent 3 damage strike. This may be useful if you have a hand stuffed with Undead Strength but don't actually want to hurt the minion e.g. you've blocked a bounce. >> 2) Do you have to announce which of the two Nightstick strikes you >> are using as you announce that you are striking with a Nightstick via >> Lam Into? > >You would have to declare which option you're using if you had a >choice, but you don't. Incorrect - you do have the choice, as above, and you would declare it when you chose your strike. -- James Coupe PGP Key: 0x5D623D5D YOU ARE IN ERROR. I don't recall Casino Reeds being able to inflict 1 damage while destroying a weapon with superior Canine Horde. Sten ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com **

To have any effect, yes. LSJ's quote, and the rest of my post, explained this - you can play it, it just won't do you any good usually. The usual examples are: - Increased Strength on a Shattering Blow - no damage increase - Increased Strength on a Fractured Armament superior - yes, damage increase because it has a damage component - Undead Strength with a Rowan Ring - no damage - Theft of Vitae by Reverend Blackwood - steal blood, no damage However, as in the Undead Strength/Rowan Ring case, you can *play* Undead Strength. It's just going to be useless (except for cycling, and other such fripperies). >I don't recall Casino >Reeds being able to inflict 1 damage while destroying a weapon with >superior Canine Horde. Right. The damage special tries to add to non-existent damage, and has no effect - like Reverend and Theft. [ quoted text not captured ]

Correct. (Or declare it when maneuvering with Lam Into at [for]).

Then you just didn't check the primary question fully ;) "to do damage and prevent" I thought I had missed a rules-change lately. [ quoted text not captured ]
