Situation: The Reverend is in combat and takes more than enough damage to be sent to torpor, thus causing him to become uncontrolled. The Reverend's controller responds with The Diamond Thunderbolt. What happens? I can think of 3 options: 1. Combat has ended before The Diamond Thunderbolt is played, so the Reverend remains where he is, with 1 (more) blood. 2. Combat has not ended yet, but all of the current damage has been handled, so unless there are other sources of damage (or presses, or additional strikes, etc.), the Reverend will survive the combat with 1 (more) blood. 3. Combat has not ended yet, and the damage dealt to the Reverend is enough to torporize him again, so The Diamond Thunderbolt is wasted. Marc G.

Torpid = controlled but not ready. Sending the opposing vampire to torpor makes them unready, but still controlled. 4. Diamond Thunderbolt (which is a good card btw) cannot be played. -- Regards, Daneel

In the Cultist Storyline rules (on WW site), #10 reads: "10. If Reverend Adams would leave the ready region, he becomes uncontrolled (and out of play) and is returned to the center of the table instead. All cards and blood on Reverend Adams remain." I would think that "he becomes uncontrolled" is not a change of control. It's simply losing control, thus DT does not apply. (For control to change, someone else would have to gain control.) Better to use it at the start of the combat for the extra blood. Good question, though - has me curious.

I would think that if you control something and then you do not then that is a change in control by definition. If the text of the thunderbolt were specific to when a minion changes controlers then that would be diffrent.

Yup, I totally missed the point of the original post. That it was referring to the Storyline event, and that as a result it should be interpreted with the special sroryline rules. My only excuse would be the immense amount of alcohol consumed, that miraculuously failed to impede my verbal prowesses while apparently completely shutting down the rest of my mental faculties. :) So please disregard my post, maybe except the part where I say Diamond Thunderbolt is a good card... :) -- Regards, Daneel

Careful - pretty soon we'll be arguing over the meaning of the word "only". ;) Moving from controlled to uncontrolled is a change in the 'state of control'. (yes to no) A change in control would require the vampire still be controlled. (yesA to yesB) If the text of DT applied to a change to uncontrolled, you could use it when your vampire was Banished or even burned to negate the change in the 'sate of control'. I would think that DT could be used to negate the change of control mechanic provided by the referendum, though. Again, just guessing.

[ quoted text not captured ] Correct. Diamond Thunderbolt cannot be used on a minion being burned, being removed from the game, becoming contested, or otherwise becoming uncontrolled (Banishement, Reverend storyline rules, &c.)
