I have a question about Chas's disadvantage: Imagine this scenario: Chas (controlled by Methuselah A) takes an action. Methuselah B plays a Master card to cause that action to fail. Can Methuselah C play a Sudden Reversal to cancel B's Master card that failed the action? Thanks, Brian Chas: When Chas announces an action, any other Methuselah can discard a master card as an out-of-turn master to cause the action to fail. Chas gets +1 strength when in combat with a titled vampire. Sudden: Out-of-Turn. Burn a master card played by another Methuselah as the card is played. That card has no effect, but any pool burned for that card is retrieved by that Methuselah. Clarifications and Rulings Can only burn master cards that are played from the hand in the normal fasion (not Elder Library via Bindusara's ability nor the skill card played when Creation Rites is successful, for example). Well... you can play Sudden Reversal on a Direct Intervention, so toasting other Out-of-Turn Masters is legal in and of itself. Card text on Chas reads "can DISCARD a master card as an out-of-turn Master". Ruling text reads "can only burn master cards that are played in the normal fashion". Out-of-Turn Masters are perfectly normal, so I'd think you can Sudden such a Master card. >Thanks, > Brian > > >Chas: >When Chas announces an action, any other Methuselah can discard >a master card as an out-of-turn master to cause the action to fail. >Chas gets +1 strength when in combat with a titled vampire. > >Sudden: >Out-of-Turn. Burned (discarded) cards are not "played" in the normal fashion - you cannot Direct Intervention a political action card burned for a vote, and you cannot Sudden Reversal a master cards burned to give Angelica intercept, and you cannot Sudden Reversal a master card burned to cause Chas's action to fail. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. But it's still considered to be a master pahse OOT turn action? Uh..that just doesn't seem right.

If you have an out of turn master phase, you may burn it and discard a master card from your hand to make Chas' action fail.

The explanation uses some non-standard terms ("out of turn master phase"), but is an adequate description of what happens. You can use your next master phase action to burn a master card from your hand to causes Chas's action to fail. You could also use that next MPA to play a master: out-of-turn card. In any event, once you use your next MPA, you can't do it again until that debt is paid. [ quoted text not captured ]

OOT does not, intrinsically, require the playing of a master card, in the same way that using a master phase action does not require you to play a master card. You can word certain abilities in those ways, too. Frex: Random OOT Master Master Unique Location If combat is about to end in a combat where you control one of the minions, you may tap this card to cause another round of combat to start (combat does not end). Tapping this card takes a "master phase OOT action" <to borrow your phrasing> -- James Coupe PGP Key: 0x5D623D5D "You reinstall Dial-Up Networking.
