Will Drawing out the Beast at superior still deal damage when a S:CE is played?

LSJ's rules reference makes this clear. The listing for S:CE says something like "(Goto Step X)" and step X has the end of combat effects one of which would be DotB. -Robert Goudie -------------------==== Posted via Deja News ====----------------------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Post to Usenet

How about if the Elysium is tapped to end combat before range, but after Drawing Out the Beast is played (the reacting Methuselah taps Elysium)? Is the damage still dealt? Brian

Ending combat will take you past the resolution of end of round effects. So, no, DoB will not deal damage if S:CE is played in that round. -- Jeffrey Endres Undergrad B. My fault for not actually quoting the original source. But when combat ends from a S:CE (or Elysium, etc.) you go to the end of round effects. See the official rules reference quotes below. 2. Resolve Strikes. a. Strikes resolve in the following order. If both strikes are in the same class, then they resolve simultaneously. [15.3] i. Strike: Combat Ends. (8.3) (Go to step F) [clip] F. Round Ends. (21) [15.1] 1. Apply any end-of-round effects. 2. If the last Press was used to continue Combat, then Combat continues (Go back to step A). So DotB damage is taken even if combat ends. End of Round is *not* a phase of combat that only occurs after the Press phase. If DotB's damage was applied during a set phase (like "during the Press step, take a damage"), then it would be bypassed by S:CE, etc. But it is not. The round cannot continue past the end of combat. If combat ends, then the round must also end. DotB's damage will occur at that time. -- L. Scott Johnson (vte...@regency.wizards.com) Official VtES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. The victim of DotB will take a point of damage at the end of each round of combat, without regard to the reason the round is ending (card text only refers to the end of the round, not the reason). If a round ends prematurely, regardless of the reason, it is still the end of the round, and DotB damage will be applied. This includes: Mariel's special, S:CE (incl. superior FoM), going to torpor, burning opponent, Elysium: Arboretum, Rotschreck, and Legacy of Power. [ quoted text not captured ]
