Good morning fellow players, I am hoping somebody can shed some light on the following questions. Shadow Court Satyr: How many times can he play the card you place on him, ie per round, or per combat or as many times as he wants. Can the Satyr play taste of vitae. If you place disarm on the Satyr what happens when it disarms someone, does the card get placed on the Vampire and you get to replace or ??. What happens if you place reform body on the Satyr ?. Weather Control. This is easiest explained if I give you an example, lets say Blythe gets a fortitude skill card, and then ambushes Donal, before range Blythe plays 5 weather controls, enough to send her to torpor, can she then play undead persisitence and if she can, can she then continue to play weather controls until Donal goes to torpor ? Just a clarification needed on this one, can you in one turn equip with some equipment, then frak drive and perform a magic of the smith, then freak drive and tap the vast wealth to get more equipment ? Can you play cards before range and then tap the elysium on your turn ie can Stanislava play the usual dawn op, drawing out the beast and then tap the elysium, thus sending the other person to torpor or am I just dreaming ? Does anybody have any temptations to trade (sell), I am looking for about 10 so all offers are welcome. Thanks, Ste...@doughty-engineering.co.uk

If you place disarm on the Satyr what happens when it disarms No. He doesn't play such a card "as a vampire", since it doesn't require a discipline. And Taste of Vitae can only be played by a vampire. > someone, does the card get placed on the Vampire and you get to It is placed on the opposing vampire (card text). It doesn't get replaced. > replace or ??. What happens if you place reform body on the Satyr ?. He can use it. If he is burned (during combat), he can invoke Reform Body and just go to torpor. But, if he was burned in the usual way (by losing all of his life), then he will still have no life and will still be burned after going to torpor. If he is burned by some other means (Blood to Water, for instance), then he'll just wind up in torpor. He'll remain in torpor indefinitely, since there is no method available for an ally to leave torpor or to be rescued. > Weather Control. > This is easiest explained if I give you an example, lets say Blythe > gets a fortitude skill card, and then ambushes Donal, before range > Blythe plays 5 weather controls, enough to send her to torpor, can she > then play undead persisitence and if she can, can she then continue to > play weather controls until Donal goes to torpor ? Yes. She can do so even without playing Undead Persistence. She can play X Weather Controls before any of them begin dealing damage. > Just a clarification needed on this one, can you in one turn equip > with some equipment, then frak drive and perform a magic of the smith, > then freak drive and tap the vast wealth to get more equipment ? Not if you are using the DCI "No Repeat Actions" rule. Each of those actions is a form of the "equip" action. > Can you play cards before range and then tap the elysium on your turn > ie can Stanislava play the usual dawn op, drawing out the beast and > then tap the elysium, thus sending the other person to torpor or am I > just dreaming ? Dawn Op is played before combat is begun. And yes, the combo is legal. -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) V:TES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. In the situation given, since the damage has resolved (before range) aren't you now past the "start of combat" window for Weather Control, assuming that the text is (as the elder library deck builder gives it - the mirror at www.deckserver.net of the rulemonger page seems to be down): "Only usable at beginning of combat. Both combatants and each of their retainers take 1 damage before range is determined each round. This damage cannot be prevented." -- James Coupe

[ quoted text not captured ] Good point. That may have been the case in the past (it certainly seems familiar), but it doesn't fit with the current application of the terminology. See the example of DotB and Shadow Step [LSJ 06-DEC-1999]: http://www.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=557281435 "Start/beginning of combat" is equivalent to "start/beginning of the first round of combat", which is equivalent to "before range is determined on the first round of combat". Since you're still in the "before range" phase of the first round of combat, you are free to play more Weather Controls. [ quoted text not captured ]

With Primal instincts if you cancel a hand strike and the person can't play any other strike cards do they get no strike that round? Thanks, Dan

Then if "start of combat" is the same as "before range", why do you get to choose to delay the resolution of the card? If, as it was with two different windows ("start" and "before range"), the damage didn't resolve until a later window, I can see that. But if the damage resolves in this window, why do you get to choose to delay it? Surely the card just resolves then, and deals the damage? -- James Coupe

Primal Instincts cancels *your* strike. If you read the card text closely, that's what it does. The idea is that it's an Auspex card whereby, if you were striking first, you could tell what they were going to do, and so did something else instead. e.g. I strike for hands (because I'm acting), my opponent plays Body Flare, I decide I can't handle that and play Primal Instincts to cancel *my* strike and play Dodge instead. However, if you cancel your own hand strike, it does not prevent you from picking "hand strike" as your strike again, nor does it prevent you from playing the same card again (e.g. I cancel an Undead Strength *of mine*, but I can play another copy of it if I want to - useful for cycling cards, perhaps). Going over the card text, so you can see: "SUP: Only usable by the acting vampire after the opposing minion has chosen his or her strike. Cancel this vampire's strike and choose a new one." You are the vampire in the first sentence, and your opponent is the minion. In the second sentence, you are still the vampire - so you cancel your own strike. And "new" doesn't mean "different". -- James Coupe

[ quoted text not captured ] Weather Control sets up an effect that happens at the "before range" step of every round. The damage isn't done by playing the card - it is done by the resolution of the effect that the card generates. [ quoted text not captured ]

Could I say "It resolves now, before you get a chance to tap that elysium"? Or "I play twelve of these. As the acting player, I react to each of my cards with one. Then they all do their damage. And you don't get to tap the Elysium?" -- James Coupe

The acting player orders events. > Could I say "It resolves now, before you get a chance to tap that > elysium"? Elysium could not prevent the effect, regardless of the order of its tapping. [LSJ 11-OCT-1997], a post which used the idea that "beginning of round" strictly preceeded "before range" (a distinction which is no longer made), but which adequately addresses the issue of ending combat while "deal damage during this step" events are pending. I'll put this on the RT list to see if the extra step ("beginning of a round" then "before range") is desired. It doesn't seem to be worthwhile, to me. It also seems as if the card writers used the terms interchangeably. cf. Concealed Weapon/Disguised Weapon. > Or "I play twelve of these. As the acting player, I react to > each of my cards with one. Then they all do their damage. And you don't > get to tap the Elysium?" Right, but see above for Elysium's lack of effectiveness here. [ quoted text not captured ]
