I control a Black Hand vampire with a Corporal Reservoir and one blood. This vampire also has a Temptation played by another Methuselah on it. During the other Meths Master phase, the Temptation gains one counter. The Tempting Meth burns the counter to take control of my vampire. Can I tap the Corporal Reservoir in response to that declaration to fail the temporary steal effect since my vampire now has 2 blood vs 1 burned Temptation counter? Thanks in advance. Jeff

[ quoted text not captured ] No. When he burned the counter, he got control. There is no response stack to that effect.

[ quoted text not captured ] Corporal Reservoir could be tapped during the other methuselah's untap phase to proactively counter the steal attempt, yes?

[ quoted text not captured ] If there is none, when can you play Diamond Thunderbolt? Jeff

In message <eedc1656-baf6-4ce0...@a32g2000prf.googlegroup [ quoted text not captured ] When its card text dictates. The point is that there is no general "stack" mechanism in V:TES. You don't get to say "Okay, in response, I play..." and then resolve the stack backwards, a la Magic. The basic principle of V:TES is: - play card / effect - resolve card / effect - move on to playing another card Some cards, such as Sudden Reversal or Diamond Thunderbolt, can wedge themselves into a timing slot that they create with card text. But the basic principle for cards that don't do that is play a card, resolve a card. -- James Coupe PGP Key: 0x5D623D5D YOU ARE IN ERROR. [ quoted text not captured ] Are you sure? I mean, you place the Temptation counter in the master phase. During the master phase, nothing else happens with the Temptation or the vampire it is on. During the minion phase, the controller of Temptation can choose to burn the counters and take control of the vampire, if he has enough counters. Now, I would think that Corporal Reservoir could be tapped any time prior to the burning the Temptation counters to give the vampire blood and make the burning of the counters no longer possible (if the vampire now has more blood than counters, of course). Or am I mistaken here?

The Lasombra napsal(a): [ quoted text not captured ] Actually, since the Temptation counter is placed during master phase, and can only be burned to take control during minion phase, you can use the Reservoir after the counter is placed, but before minion phase starts (in other words - as a reaction to placing the counter). Looking purely at card text, Temptation has a requirement - i.e. does the vampire have less or equal blood than counters? If so then you can activate the card. Once you activate it, the text in its entirety takes place - i.e. burn all the counters to untap and take control of the vamp - the requirement of the card has been met when the activation was announced and even if you are able to add an infinite amount of blood to your vampire during the activation (somehow) it wouldn't make a difference - the card doesn't say burn all the temptation counters and untap and take control of a vampire with less or equal blood than the number of counters burnt. Diamond Thunderbolt allows the whole text to flow, but simply stops the vampire from changing control - different situation. Although the timing issue does bring up an interesting question of whether or not it still is possible to tap the corporeal reservoir before the change takes place - if a (theoretical) Madness Network opens up a time window to declare that all your actions are completed and still be able to untap via Rutor's Hand, then surely a (theoretical) Diamond Thunderbolt also creates a timing window in which Corporeal Reservoir could be tapped - thus allowing your opponent to receive you vampire with one more blood (for whatever LSJ- forsaken reason you'd do that for). My guess is that you can still tap CR to gain blood (but transfering the vamp still takes place)
