This has to have been asked before, but no matter how hard I try, I
can't get google groups to give me any reasonable search results (or
white-wolf's rulings page, or google web search). ("walk of caine")
returns 0 results, and (walk of caine) returns like 1000, none of
which are relevant as far as I can see. (walk of caine author:lsj)
returns 7 results, of which definitely none answer the question.
Anyway, Walk of Caine says "Choose X ready Blood Brothers you control
who belong to the same circle as this acting vampire (including this
acting vampire). Each chosen vampire must burn a blood, or this card
has no effect." The question is, does the acting vampire *have* to be
chosen? The way I read it, "(including this acting vampire)" is
reminder text, indicating the the acting vampire belongs to the same
circle as the acting vampire. Normally, text in parentheses is
reminder text, not an additional restriction on card use (usually, but
not always, I realize).
Another tangentially related question... let's say the acting vampire
*does* have to be chosen, and I'm not aware of this until *after* I
play a Force of Will bleed with my tapped vampire that only has 1
blood. Now, my Force of Will bleed is no longer going to be enough to
oust my prey, so I want to cancel the action if possible. If I play
the Walk of Caine and the acting vampire burns his last blood, and
thus can't pay for Force of Will at resolution, does he still take the
aggravated damage? The way I read it, the text "After resolution,
this vampire takes 2 unpreventable aggravated damage even if the
action is blocked" applies only if the action is successful (because
all action text applies by default only on a successful action), or if
it is blocked (due to specific card text). If the action fizzles due
to not being able to pay for it, I'm guessing the acting minion should
be safe...
