Forwarded from Robert Goudie (V:EKN Chairman): Hesha's hands continued their artful chiseling as he muttered encouragement to himself. "After all, haven't I proven myself strong enough to resist the Eye's temptations by burying it in the first place?" He stood more upright as he continued his soliloquy. "If I were to unearth the Eye", he rationalized, "it would not be a sign of weakness but rather a great testament to my discipline." Hesha ceased his carving and stood back from his work. "I just need a few more days of study. That's all." * * * Hector Rivera had just returned from a successful assignment and looked forward to letting his master know of his accomplishment. He also snatched an interesting bauble from his victim before sending him to the final death. As Hector withdrew the Eye from his pocket, he was startled by the sounds of what seemed like an explosion from the far side of the room. Hector was afforded enough time to turn his head and obtain a close-up view of the rocket-propelled grenade just before it impacted with him. San Diego's Camarilla population would have suffered greater losses that day had the Sabbat animals been more patient. Most of the extensive guest list had not yet arrived and the overeager Sabbat pack failed to secure even the most obvious exits. Later, Prince Tara spoke with those who survived in an attempt to track down the source of the attack. Of course, not all of the eyewitnesses were known to Tara. ***The powerful Eye of Hazimel is loose in San Diego and you have the power to determine which clan will receive it.*** * * * Throughout the month of November, the results of select Vampire: the Eternal Struggle tournaments from around the world will be recorded and used to determine the clan that will next receive the powerful artifact, the Eye of Hazimel. Attend a designated storyline Tournament and bring a clan-based deck representing the clan you'd like to receive the Eye. At least eighty-percent of your deck's crypt is to be comprised of a single-clan. Complete the rest of your crypt in any way you please. The Tournament Historian will make a record of key battles and of the winning deck at your event. White Wolf will then use these results as inspiration for completing the next chapter of the unfolding mystery of the Eye of Hazimel. EVENT INFO: This event will also mark the first official distribution of the new promo-only card, the Eye of Hazimel. Each player attending a Storyline Event will receive a copy of the card. Keep checking the V:TES page at http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes for updates on the locations and dates of Storyline Events near you. FORMAT: Players will bring decks that follow the regular V:EKN Constructed Format rules (60-90 card libraries, No Repeat Actions in effect, etc.) except that at least 75% of each player's crypt must be comprised of a single-clan. The rest of their crypt and their entire library may be completed in any manner the player chooses. Some additional rules will be in effect for each game. 1. Each game begins with the Eye of Hazimel card uncontrolled, in center of the table. 2. Burn the Edge during your untap phase to place the uncontrolled Eye of Hazimel on one of your vampires. 3. Any minion may take a D action to enter combat with any vampire who possesses the Eye of Hazimel. 4. Any vampire committing diablerie against a vampire with the Eye of Hazimel must take the Eye of Hazimel. No blood hunt may be called against the diablerizing vampire. -Robert Robert Goudie Chairman, V:EKN rob...@vtesinla.org -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. LOL. I was just about to post something about this. Us poor, non-Princes feel so deprived of info sometimes! Good job on getting another Storyline arranged! (Though it might be confusing because now there are *two* "2002 Storylines". > ***The powerful Eye of Hazimel is loose in San Diego and you have the >power to determine which clan will receive it.*** Um...is this necessarily a good thing? Control of Baltimore was more or less a good thing. But control of the Eye of Hazimel? (which may very well make you the pawn of a Methusaleh/Antediludivan/ or whatever). So just to make sure, we should be playing a clan we like (as opposed to L5R foolishness of playing clans we hate so that they win the booby prize)? >Throughout the month of November, the results of select Vampire: the >Eternal Struggle tournaments from around the world will be recorded and used >to determine the clan that will next receive the powerful artifact, the Eye >of Hazimel. Attend a designated storyline Tournament and bring a clan-based >deck representing the clan you'd like to receive the Eye. Any details on how to set up a designated storyline tournament? >At least >eighty-percent of your deck's crypt is to be comprised of a single-clan. Why the change? I thought 75% was a good number. Especially since standard crypt size is 12, 75% creates a nice integer (9) as opposed to a nasty 9.6. >EVENT INFO: This event will also mark the first official distribution of >the new promo-only card, the Eye of Hazimel. Each player attending a >Storyline Event will receive a copy of the card. > Will players be allowed to add the card into their decks (like Meddling), in addition to the Eye already starting in play. >(60-90 card libraries, No Repeat Actions in effect, etc.) >except that at least 75% of each player's crypt must be comprised of a >single-clan. Now 75%? Or is it 80%? I'm confused... >1. Each game begins with the Eye of Hazimel card uncontrolled, in center of >the table. Can the Eye of Hazimel still be targeted even if it's uncontrolled (can't think of anything that could though). Who "owns" the Eye? (in case it goes to the ash heap). >2. Burn the Edge during your untap phase to place the uncontrolled Eye of >Hazimel on one of your vampires. Can you place the Eye on Beast? >3. Any minion may take a D action to enter combat with any vampire who >possesses the Eye of Hazimel. Ha ha. So if Tutu steals the Eye, then he's safe? =) Also, is there any mechanism to bring the Eye back into play if it's burned (which seems like an easy and likely thing to happen?). So...do you still want to win VP's and TW's, or is it more important to control the Eye at the end of the game? And does it particularly mean anything if you destroy it (or choose to destroy it)? So whereas most sanctioned tournaments do not require a Prince (just an organizer/judge), Storyline tournament do require a Prince then? Also, I take it that the Prince (who is considered the Organizer) cannot play in the storyline tournament (unless the Multi-Judge thingy is used)? Halcyan 2

Halcyan 2

>Question : do you pay the pool cost for the eye everytime you gain control >of it ? No. You are not playing it from your hand so you don't need to pay the pool cost. During your untap though, you have to pay a pool and burn the Eye (due to the Eye's card text). Halcyan 2

This makes it very interesting... I wonder if people will field any wierd discipline combo decks (CHI/POT) to take advantage of the card...? Also I have a question to clarify these rules: What happens to the Eye if the methuselah who controls the minion that posseses the eye is ousted? Does it return to the center of the table or does the ousting methuselah get it and place it on one of his minions?

[ quoted text not captured ] I had the same thought. However, March Halcyon with the Eye of Hazimel could be pretty ferocious. Apparition and Skin of Steel for free to avoid damage. Signpost, Fists of Death (free), Grapple, Pushing the Limit (free) for lots of damage would be pretty nice for a 1 cap. A long-range Canine Horde would spoil that pretty quick, though. Cailean, anyone? Maybe you need to give it to Ingrid Russo, so she can play superior Thoughts Betrayed and then Taste to regain the lost blood. Yeah. Probably best to just be prepared to burn the thing or play with Obedience to avoid the 1 cap Eye rush. -Matt

Cross-posting from another list as these questions may be of interest. > > Am i missing something here? I have some questions regarding the > additional > rules of the Storuline Tournament: > > 1. What kind of inlfuence does the Eye of Hazimel have on the storyline > results? I mean, does the controller of the card wins the game, or the > card > is just to be fitted in the normal game? Just fitted to the normal game. Victory conditions (ousting, VPs, etc.) do not change. The event historian will be asked to chronicle the movement of the eye in particular in regards to what story bits make it from the tournaments to card texts and future cards, but the victory conditions for playing are not changed. > > 2. Each player should receive a copy of the card AFTER the event. The only Eye of Hazimel in play should be the one that starts uncontrolled in the middle of the table. > 4. I know this is "futurology" or something but since any > minion > can enter combat with the vampire controlling the EoH, i don't want that > "my Lasombra S&B cheesy deck" have it... The strategy for winning with or without making use of the Eye is entirely up to you. Steve Wieck White Wolf

It could be a significant power boost to them. Halcyan 2

Just "out of game", or does it go to the currently-controlling Methuselah's ash heap? I think the other rules questions can be answered by applying the standard rules, but this one's not clear since there is no player who is the "owner" of the Eye. Josh eye eye cap'n

So if I become a Prince, and try to arrange a storyline tournament, is even possible as there is only 4 Vampire players in my area (me included)? With good luck I might get more players to attend. How many players are needed to have a Storyline tournament? I guess I am not able to play. Multi-Judge system is only usable in tournament where are 8-20(?) players. Is this correct? Cheers, Jarkko

Will there be extra Eyes for tables or will it just be someone's Eye borrowed for the tables' uses? People might want to actually possess it if the player who possessed it last at the end of each game got to keep an extra copy.

[ quoted text not captured ] Not to mention the possibility that the table copy of the Eye will be bent up and worn a bit from being handled, and some people may not want it. You may end up sitting next to some slob with dirty hands that grabs the Eye during the game and smudges it up, who's going to want it then? An outside possibility, and not one I'm personally worried about, but some people are a little more anal with their cards, and might not want to take a card that's been manhandled by everyone else at the table. If it's really a problem, I'll take the table copy of the Eye they use in Phoenix. Most of our guys use napkins between drooling on their sleeves and throwing chairs at each other. Doubt it'll be too hacked up. If it's a problem at your tournament, you guys can send your table copy to me, too. :) Fred

If you're interested in keeping the copy, bring along a spare sleeve. Use the sleeve to make sure the Eye doesn't get all nasty and stuff. Halcyan 2 a freaky neat freak myself

I personally always carry about 20 or so loose card sleeves in my bag; primarily for use when my cards might leave my own controlled area (Powerbase: Montreal and the Rack always get sleeved the minute they enter play, for example... as do Fame, Haven Uncovered, and Mark of Damnation), but also for general-purpose use of anyone who happens to need one for some reason. Sleeving the Eye should be no problem at any table, really. There are many more like me out there (and many more who are FAR more anal). On a different note, if there's no visible benefit to possessing the Eye at the end of the game, then you'll have little trouble picking my deck out of the crowd -- it'll probably be the one with the Anarch Troublemakers, Canine Hordes, and Shattering Blows. This, of course, depends on the TRUE card text of the Eye. If the Eye is a significant "plus" to have on your vampires, then I'll certainly be playing a break-stuff deck... especially if it is of a nature that requires a deck built around it to work best. If the Eye looks like a big dead slot, though, then I won't bother. -- "There's no gray. There's just white that's got grubby." -- T.P.
