I just wqanted to get an official ruling about the following combo: Vitae Block Play before range is determined. Only usable if the opposing minion is a vampire. A vampire can play only one Vitae Block each combat. Gain 1 optional press this round. Put this card in play, and move up to 2 blood from the opposing vampire to this card. During your untap phase, return the blood counters to that vampire and burn this card. As above, but move up to 3 blood to this card. and Weather Control Only usable at beginning of combat. Both combatants and each of their retainers take 1 damage before range is determined each round. This damage cannot be prevented. SUP: As above, but the amount of damage inflicted increased by 1 each round. Clarifications and Rulings: Multiple Weather Controls are cumulative. [TOM 19950710] Weather Control's damage will occur even if combat is subsequently ended before range (by Mariel or Elysium: Arboretum, e.g.) [LSJ 19971110] my question is can I get the effect of vitae block to resolve before damage from the weather is applied. Both are "before range is determined", but WC is played at the "beginning of combat". Naram Boris Zaretsky >Creative sig here<

[ quoted text not captured ] Yes. "Beginning of Combat" == "first round, before range". -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Links to revised rulebook, rulings, errata, and tournament rules: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/

Both are "before range is > determined", but WC is played at the "beginning of combat". Before range is determined = beginning of combat. If you are the acting vampire, you can play any number of "before range effect "without being interrupted". Opposing player may then "react" with his own prerange cards. Once you both have finished with those effect, the damage from weather control is applied. Your combo is perfectly valid. Example : you bleed with Myriam Benyona (with a tha skill card). Your prey's anvil (full blood) blocks. You decide to play nothing before range. Anvil choses to play Fist of Death, then weather control to be sure to knock off Myriam. You then chose to play 3 weather controls and 1 vitae block. Once you both have finished, Anvil moves 2 blood to VB, and the damage from the 4 weather control resolve. Anvil goes to torpor before range is determined, whereas Myriam is still okay with 1 blood left. You can then play amaranth. reyda

For pedantry: No. This is not true, since a "before range is determined" card may be played in later rounds.
