Ankou timing (LSJ)

Hello, I was a bit puzzled when I read Ankou's cardtext today. Suppose A controls 2 minions with a mandatory hunt (A1 and A2), and it's A's turn. B has an untapped and ready Ankou. A starts his minion phase, and decides to perform A1's hunt. As far as I know, Ankou cannot burn A1 right there, because that would have A give the impulse, which he cannot do because he has a pending mandatory action (hunt) with A2. So, A2 hunts. Can the Ankou burn A1 after A2 has hunted ? I think he can't, because it would be too late. I think - but I'm not entirely sure - that "When", in V:tES language, has some proximity meaning I'd transcribe as "immediately after" in this particular case. The Ankou Cardtype: Vampire Clan: Malkavian Group: 5 Capacity: 10 Discipline: AUS DEM OBF Camarilla: When any vampire successfully hunts while the Ankou is ready and untapped, the Ankou may burn that vampire as a (D) action that turn (even on another Methuselah's turn).

[ quoted text not captured ] "When" in this case is only to signify that the Ankou can take his special action in the event that there is a target who has hunted at least once during the current turn. As it states "that turn" the actioncan be taken to burn either A1 or A2 at any point during the turn in which they hunted. As to the hunting in between mandatory actions bit, I am not too sure.....

"When X happens, The Ankou may do Y that turn." It doesn't say "The ankou must immediately do this" or "before the next action"; the Ankou's power grants him the ability to take that action (during) that turn. And the usual sequencing applies for taking actions, so the Ankou cannot take that action until priority-to-act has been passed to him, which doesn't happen until the acting player has taken as many actions as he pleases. In fact, in the case you describe above, the Ankou would be able to burn either of A1 and A2 (both if he has a way to untap) once priority is passed to him. -John Flournoy

Hmm... can he? Or is it a case where NRA applies because it would be two actions provided by the same card in play, and thus not allowed? (See also the fact that Marrakesh Codex's two actions can't be taken in the same turn by the same vampire, even though they're different actions.) LSJ? - D.J.

That is, can he do *both* or does NRA prevent that? Obviously he can do either. - D.J.

[ quoted text not captured ] Can't, as you explain.

[ quoted text not captured ] Can Ankou do it during the Influence or Discard phases? (acting meth may hold back an action to act following Ankou's action (since impulse returns to acting meth); but now Ankou can decline during minion phase and take special action during Infl or Discard phase) best - chris

Effects and cards that grant non-default action options to minions do not exempt them from this rule. > best - > > chris -John Flournoy
